Good old Nigel. Always good value.

Having arrived home from Aus a week ago, the plane was full. But and it’s a big but, flights out of Australia were for repatriation reasons, allowing people like me to get home. It wouldn’t surprise me if all these planes from virus hotspots were for exactly the same reasons and in my opinion valid. People need to get home Nigel, and by plane! Grow up man.

In Aus all international flights from end March are banned, other than for reparation. Nothing wrong in getting people home!

But he is right about the airports. No checks at either end, nothing. But then again, people like me understand the rules so we traveled home and stayed in. A test wouldn’t have changed what we did. And Heathrow wasn’t busy. A quick look at the car parks, mostly empty. No trouble finding our car at the long stay, sitting there all by itself.

Police won’t be taking drastic measures because of one or two people, but to deter the idiots who go down the sea front or visit places, like we have seen. Exactly what happened on Bondi beach Where police patrol, not because one or two people fancy a swim, but hundreds did.

As for China telecoms, they have been excluded from supplying technology that in any way affects our security. And buying from China, been doing that for years.

House arrest. Doesn’t exist.

Agree with him about some of the police action. In fact, I read this morning that the police are being reigned in. They can't just enforce what some commentators and ministers think SHOULD be the law, but in fact, isn't the law. There's absolutely nothing stopping people legally walking in the lake district. Scary how quickly we could turn into a police state, without proper care.

I'll be very interested to see how long lockdown will take place before people start rebelling and 'breaking the law' because there's a tipping point where people dont want to waste their lives sitting at home, doing nothing.

We won’t turn into a police state. People go out, as do I to walk my dog. See plenty of people out, all observing the distance guidelines, getting exercise and necessary food shopping. Being sensible.

The issue is, like so many other things, a small minority of idiots don’t feel the need to follow the guidelines and screw it up for everybody else. Next sunny day and they will be out again. My view, fine the idiots. Don’t give a toss if they catch the virus but it’s the at risk group they may pass it on too.

Funny how everyone that is out believes they have the right to be out and are being sensible and it's others who are flouting the guidance.

Agree that some people are idiots. The point is that in some circumstances they aren't breaking the law, but the police are trying to say they are by either fining them or shaming them with drone footage, etc...

We probably wont turn into a police state, but its already pretty clear that some forces are relishing it and stepping above the law.

Good to see you got the ‘kindness’ memo. At your age, you need to stay calm and conserve energy in this crisis.

Good luck with it all fella.

Don't get dragged into the 'small minority of idiots screwing it up for everybody else' excuse that the government are going to use for the increased lockdowns they're going to enforce on us.

He is doing what he has always thrived on, "Sowing Division". He loves this "Us against them" attitude. He almost sounds convincable.

Nobody is going to allow a "police state" like what Hungary have done in the past few days and have been striving to do for some time. Remember Hungary's Dictator is a strong alley of Putin and Trump. Farage is a paid Puppet of Trump.

Farage is a Russian Asset.

I don't think we are going to see a rebellion. The impact of the virus on lives we know will deter that. Today I have been told of 2 deaths that have affected people that I know. This is all the deterrent I need to keep it from my family, young and old.

I agree...but then put yourself 6 months in the future. IF these, or more extreme measures are in place I certainly will start questioning my right to freedom. I think a lot of people will too. Not even in 6 months. Within a month, some people will start flouting this. Whilst I maybe dont agree with it in the short term theres a debate to be had about how short life is (as we all know even more starkly in the last few weeks) and whether losing half a year of your life without travel or much else other than sitting indoors is more extreme than taking your chances by going back to normal. It's a big debate but I think that the Government really have to be careful with how long this goes on for.

I dont necessarily disagree but you say it will never happen very confidently. My understanding is that these new laws, which would have seemed absolutely extreme a few months ago, have passed with relative ease and not much fuss. This whole thing has made me realise that it's actually pretty easy for government to restrict freedoms, albeit at the moment for the right reasons.

It's all a load of old bollocks really isn't it. Farage is a charlatan, an old fashioned showman trying to make something out of nothing for his own personal glory. There is obviously some truth that some Police are misinterpreting their role in all of this but that's hardly surprising really. They've only just been given the new powers and guidelines. It'll settle down and compared to the positive benefits that the Police are delivering, by helping to enforce the lockdown, largely irrelevant.

Farage is a good talker, though. Clear, to the point, and sounds confident. You can see why some folks are taken in by his “common sense”. He’d make an ok radio phone in host...

Actually, I’ve got no beef with the first bits about the lockdown and moaning some plod getting carried away. But then he goes and ruins it by going all geopolitical conspiracy about China: deary me

People who flout the lockdown are killing their fellow citizens. They are the kind of sociopaths who care not about others. Farage is a prime example of one.

This cannot continue. They need to be incarcerated and if further incidents occur then, to protect the community, they may have to pay the ultimate price.

What do other Boarders think?

I wouldn't even bother to listen to what he's rattling on about now. I would simply like to say that the section I have highlighted is probably the bit I have most agreed with on this message board. EVER.

There's nothing wrong with people walking in the Lake District if they live close to the Lake District but it is if they are driving miles to get there when they can just as easily walk closer to home.
In Ireland people are now restricted to travelling no further than 2km from home but I haven't heard any moans about Ireland becoming a police state.

If people do start rebelling and 'breaking the law' because they are bored and have no respect for others then tag them, monitor them and fine them for every unnecessary outing.

And if they continue to offend and contribute to deaths?

What then?
