Fair enough, but I don`t get it.

They were charged by EFL eight days ago for failing to pay their players on time. They have also been referred to an independent disciplinary commission, having already been charged for failing to fulfil two fixtures this season. If found guilty, they could face a fine, points deduction or even withdrawal of their league membership.

Once again fans suffer at the hands of bad owners. If ever a business needs to furlough its them.

Macclesfield have been given a seven-point deduction for failing to play December's match against Plymouth and for non-payment of player wages.

Not sure if it matters , but Stevenage are 3pts behind with a game in hand.

Hard to see Stevenage or anyone else playing again this season.
There’s another L1 and L2 Chairmen’s meeting and it seems that the feeling is that the majority are happy to end the season now.
Maybe Barrow will be promoted to replace Bury and that will be it.

I think you are right. On July 1, Stevenage have two contracted players. I will cost them £250,000 to pay players for an extra two months.

Macclesfield at risk of points deduction and relegation after new EFL charge.

Have they paid any wages on time at all this year?

I don`t like Steveange but I`ll rather see them stay in League Two next season.

I think i heard that ex. O's keeper Les Sealey son wanted to take over the club but only if they remained in div 2 and not relegated to National league. Apparently he has struggled to get any dialogue going with the current owner.

Now there’s a surprise.

Macclesfield deducted points but avoid relegation to National League.

Unbelievable.

Seems to me, the EFL went out of their way to keep Macclesfield IN the league

EFL have bottled it IMHO. Should be making an example of clubs that constantly miss player payments or tax settlements

No doubt Macclesfield would have dragged it through the courts if the sanction had of sent them down but I feel for Stevenage on this one.

The independent tribunal that made this adjudication have given Macc a four point suspended punishment when not if they transgress again - Its kicking the can down the road, we'll have this again next season. The EFL should have made it clear last time that another transgression during the season would have meant expulsion.

Feel for what both Macclesfield and Stevenage fans have had to go through, and what they're no doubt still going through today.

A suspended sentence if there is a repeat when this case was because of a repeat of the original offence?

The wrong decision was made because it would have relegated Macclesfield and they were too gutless to do that. But when Macclesfield inevitably breach the rules again next season if they go down it can be put down to subsequent results on the pitch.

I’m really surprised the EFL haven’t taken the opportunity to be rid of a club with ongoing financial issues.

Clearly Stevenage were the worst team in the division on the pitch through the season and so can’t really complain (much) if they take the drop, but at least they are solvent(ish), whereas you can see Macclesfield having exactly the same problems next season - especially if gate income is restricted by necessary social distancing measures.

The EFL just didn’t have the courage to do the right thing. So a shambles of a club like Macclesfield can continue in League 2. Shame on them.

Without new owners with a lot money, I can`t see how they will survive next season.

Next season Macclesfield will be what Bury were to the season just ended
Unless they are bought out by some serious money, they will no doubt be gone

Macclesfield could still be relegated as EFL appeal against two point penalty.

Wrote this last Monday as I was aware that clubs were "lobbying" the EFL to appeal this, there are several clubs in league two who are extremely angry that the EFL did not deal with the situation themselves but passed the buck to the sports arbitraion panel and by doing so trying to save face. It will likely get very messy now and whatever the outcome it's likely to be dragged through the courts by either Macclesfield or Stevenage.

EFL clubs will meet (virtually) on Wednesday to discuss how and when football can restart next season, no decisions likely to be made on Wednesday but first tentative proposals will be made. Clubs are unlikely to vote for a restart without fans present in the stadiums.

Several League Two clubs have apparently contacted the EFL and requested they appeal of the decision to only dock Macclesfield two points and therefore save them from relegation. A decision that was farmed out to an independant adjudication panel this month. some (but not all) clubs are openly angry that Macclesfield have been allowed to get away with non payment of wages on at least five occasions last season and despite being given what amounted to a final warning in March transgressed again without a fit a proper sanction being imposed. clubs are angry that the EFL apparently bottled making a final decision that would relegated Macclesfield instead of Stevenage deciding to pass over any decision to an independent arbiter.
