A lady giving an interview from her upstairs window and surrounded by floodwater said "I will be alright, I have plenty of food and water and whats more I have chocolate and gin."

Yep - we are a race (and island race, fittingly) who like to flaunt our drinking problems.

Makes me proud.

Derr, the gin is to purify the water, which will have been contaminated.

What' exactly is 'Exemplary British Spirit' about it?

I do find it somewhat strange how some people think that we are a unique island race; the only people who can laugh in the face of adversity.

Clearly, these people must be unaware of the catastrphic natural disasters suffered regularly by many of the World's population. Tsunami, eathquakes, hurricanes, famine, droughts, etc. What do you honestly think people from other Countries do? Just give up, because they aren't British?

Unfortunately, there are clearly people who still believe that we are all living in 1940's Walmington-On-Sea.

Anyway, let's hope 'Boris' turns up and gives her a Churchill V-sign.

She'd better have a long supply of rations.

I would sell my wife to live in Walmington on Sea. It was a funny place to live in with all them different folks from all over the South East and one from Scotchlandshire being incompetent but still managing to have a right laff. Great days.

I knew there would be one going out of their way to make an announcement about the thread title. I was just waiting for it.
You must break out in a rash every time you hear the 'Battle of Britain.'

Not at all; it was a tremendous achievement.

Lest we forget the superb engagement and contribution from the Polish, Kiwis, Canadians, Czechs, Belgians, Aussies, South Africans, etc.

You see, the British aren't really that unique.

Who is denying the contributions of the above nations in the last war? And who is saying how unique we are as a nation. You are. Mind you our 'uniqueness' as an island helped us greatly in that war....
Great Britain is a very popular country for many many people wanting to come here and live. Maybe at least, they see something unique about the UK?

What exactly is 'unique' about the UK then; compared to many other Countries within the EU?

The numbers of people whilst residing in other EU countries risk their lives to get here. Better ask them.

I've done that with a Nigerian friend who was in Madrid for 20 years. He says it was for the kids to speak English as a first language and the highly rated Scotch education system.

asked! 1 down. 50k plus to go. conclusive evidence for sure. Given some of those who arrive can't speak English.

I think they will be disappointed with the Scottish education system, seems to be faltering under Sturgeon, well according to YouTube, probably as accurate as your Nigerian friend.

I'm asking you.

Any 'uniqueness' that you, or chief crazy horse, would like to share?

I assume like most Brits, you've never actually lived/worked abroad at any time during your lives; so how you (or others) can actually spout such drivel, is quite laughable really.

Then you assume wrong, big time wrong, about my working abroad.

In my opinion many nations demonstrate their own particular uniqueness, quirks if you like. Not better, nor worse. Just different. Each nation has its own traits, its own approach when dealing with things, even attitudes. If you have worked and lived abroad you will have experienced the little differences for yourselves.

I would go so far as to say than when working abroad, or even working with people from abroad whilst in the UK, it is important to understand the different cultures, habits, niceties and so on when working with people so as not to offend or be offended by the differences. Pretty important and respectful in my opinion.

He assumes wrong here too. If only he knew how silly sounding and presumptious that assumption is!
I've worked closely with hundreds and hundreds of foreign nationals over many years.
