Next season

Plans for next season at Leyton Orient are already underway, according to head coach Ross Embleton.

The O’s are 17 points clear of the single relegation place in League Two this season, so with only 11 games left to play and given the form of the sides fighting for survival at the bottom, it's highly likely they will be playing in the fourth tier in the 2020/21 season.

Therefore, plans for how the team will look in terms of personnel and shape are already being formulated.

Embleton said: “We’ve already started our processes in terms of planning for next year and how that’s going to start to look. Obviously we haven’t got the names and faces exactly nailed down, but the work is already being put in to make sure we’re best prepared to do that job as best we can.”

A large number of Orient players see their current contracts come to an end this summer, and while the plans for next season include offering new deals to certain players, improving and building on the squad will require some players to be moved on.

Embleton said: “We’re making decisions all the time because we want to get better. Some of that will be getting better by getting those boys on new contracts and knowing that they’re going to help us build for next year.

“Unfortunately, some of that will be that some people are not offered new deals and we have to look to other areas or other people to try and help us improve – I think that’s the reality of football and we have to show that strength of character to make those decisions.”

Make of that what you will!

So the same is happening at orient as is happening at every other club that will still be in existence next season. Some players will leave, some will be offered new deals and sign them, some are still contracted, others will be released or made available for transfer

Not really
They need to decide now who will be going and start looking at targets as replacements
I can’t see Judd, Harrold, Dayton and Gorman being kept on for example,

Let's face it, he's not really saying anything, but I suppose it fills in the interview time nicely.

The first name I want on the sheet of contract extensions is Ruel Sotiriou. Tie this lad down as it won't be long before clubs higher up come sniffing.

All that time to review and make decisions.

So a couple of contact extensions for the over 30s who have good bantz, an injured midfielder released by Crewe and a small feel for a striker who’s scored 18 goals over 6 years in the welsh premier league.

101% Agree.
I’m sure Ling is preparing the coffee as we speak.

Contractually there is a point when they need to inform people of their intentions. Normally the club will give players good advance warning so they can start the process of trying to find another club for next season.

I really hope the recruitment is good in the close season otherwise it's going to be more of the same I'm afraid. We actually need better players than this level which may just even out the flaws in the head coach and give us an even chance of being competitive. That's my opinion.

In my opinion we should never have allowed ourselves to be in this position. Now our dithering may well cost us, I just hope the lad has a good agent who advises him to stay here and build before moving on.

Why would he stay if he has offers?

We didn’t believe in him 3 months ago and shipped him out. He came back and scored 2-3 goals in about 5 games and was intermittently benched. We then brought in another clubs youngster who, if fit, will probably take minutes from him.

Surely for next season the first thing we need is a decent manager.
Ross, lovely chap, but he seems out of his depth, the football is uninspiring and he seems unable to get the best out of the squad.
Waste of time getting in new players if RE is in charge next season. And ML’s role needs to be seriously questioned.

Embleton can be reasonably confident, we are staying up, so plans for next season can start early.

I’m sure Ling is thinking how much can we sell him for.

We wouldn`t be doing his job if he didn`t.

Considering he hasn’t got a clue nothing would surprise me!
That’s the sort of player that should be kept if we have any ambitions!

Remarkably he was given a 1 year extension back in Sept 2019, taking him all the way out to June 2021.
