Eamonn Holmes hit with huge tax bill after losing court case with HMRC
Part of this news article below says
''Last year Lorraine Kelly dodged a £1.2million tax bill for her ITV work after a judge ruled she’s performing “the role of a friendly, chatty and fun personality”, rather than appearing as herself.''
So Lorraine Kelly was NOT appearing as herself ?
Oh ok, perhaps many more people ( especially actors ) could use that same excuse to avoid paying a big tax bill, so wonder if Eamonn can use the same legal precedent if he appeals ?
Eamonn Holmes could face an enormous tax bill after he lost a court case against HMRC.

The 60-year-old TV and radio presenter - who has hosted This Morning with wife Ruth Langsford on Fridays and during school holidays since 2006 - claimed he worked freelance for ITV, but a tribunal ruled he was effectively employed by the network.
A spokesperson for Holmes said in a statement to ContractorCalculator: “Eamonn has always considered himself a self-employed freelancer and has never knowingly avoided paying taxes. He is taking the time to understand the extensive document detailing the outcome.
“Like many people across the country and from many different professions, he is seeking to comprehend what this means; and simply wishes for clarity and consistency across the guidelines so that people don’t suffer the same confusion over these retrospective IR35 rulings.”

Couldn't Eammon just say he's performing the role of a friendly, chatty and fun personality as well?

Also, couldn't Ross Embleflop claim the same benefit as well, because he is "not really the manager" of LOFC?

Exactly !! So quoting this...''Lorraine Kelly dodged a £1.2million tax bill for her ITV work after a judge ruled she’s performing “the role of a friendly, chatty and fun personality”, rather than appearing as herself.''
So wonder who pocketed that £1.2million that was owed to the taxman ?

Perhaps we should all have said we were working in roles where we were not being able to be our true selves !Chicken Dhansak wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:10 am Also, couldn't Ross Embleflop claim the same benefit as well, because he is "not really the manager" of LOFC?
I certainly felt like that when I was working, would have far sooner be doing something completely different, same could be true in many things in life including marriage !

The upside of not working is that it has allowed you to flower as a message board celebrity.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:26 amPerhaps we should all have said we were working in roles where we were not being able to be our true selves !Chicken Dhansak wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:10 am Also, couldn't Ross Embleflop claim the same benefit as well, because he is "not really the manager" of LOFC?

The IR35 rules have been around for donkeys years so there is no element of retrospection. EH should have sought advice at the time.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 8:51 am Part of this news article below says

The very thought, e.g ''a message board celebrity'' .......As if !Max B Gold wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 12:52 pmThe upside of not working is that it has allowed you to flower as a message board celebrity.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:26 amPerhaps we should all have said we were working in roles where we were not being able to be our true selves !Chicken Dhansak wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:10 am Also, couldn't Ross Embleflop claim the same benefit as well, because he is "not really the manager" of LOFC?

In actual fact if we could compare online ''message board celebrity status'' to cars, something we are both familiar with, The ''Sid Bishop Model'' would be a clapped out old banger with worn out tyres ( knees ) whereas the "Max B Gold'' model would be a priceless 1930s era Spanish Hispano-Suiza !!

They have, but until now it's been up to you as the contractor to determine your status. It's not straightforward and not at all surprising that so many cases have gone through several courts. Many might argue that on the face of it, there isn't so much difference between Eamonn and Lorraine's day jobs - not that I watch either of them.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 12:54 pmThe IR35 rules have been around for donkeys years so there is no element of retrospection. Of course they do. You really think Emu fell off that roof whilst adjusting his TV aerial? The bird jumped fella, crippled by its tax debt.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 5:04 pm So we're saying people like Mr Blobby dont pay tax because they're a character?

Animals can't inherit you IMBECILE. Cannot believe Spen has not pointed out this legal loophole already.
