Re: HIGHLIGHTS: Cheltenham Town 2-1 Leyton Orient
Unbelievable really that last goal.
Somehow we got caught out again down the left like we did against Macc. Baring in mind in that game we were trying to hold onto a lead, and this one we were trying to hold on for a draw, how is our left back so far out of position, or our centre back so narrow?
When the ball goes in there’s 3 players in there who we aren’t tight enough on either.
Don’t know if it’s a bad shape, they switch off or we are simply not good enough back there.

Old fashioned play, ball crossed into the 6 yard box from the right wing and the striker heads it in, simple and effective and has been done since the earliest times of football being played.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 9:35 am Unbelievable really that last goal.

Their first goal - ball passed forward and a deflection onto the feet of May; can't criticize anyone for the second - just a good goal as Sid says. Teams have played a lot worse than us over the years, and come away with a win or a draw.

It’s because we went 3 at the back.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 9:35 am Unbelievable really that last goal.

If we’d stayed with a back 4, that goal wouldn’t have been conceded.

Re: HIGHLIGHTS: Cheltenham Town 2-1 Leyton Orient
Why couldn't we have signed a striker in the transfer window like Alfie May. 5 goals in 8 starts.
But Wilkinsons goal shows the need for forwards to pressure the keeper on back passes, why its not done more I never understand - its not just us its most teams.

First one Brophy switches off again, you can tell he's not a LB, doesn't have that defensive mindset to sense the danger. Second one once the cross comes in it's a goal, have to stop the delivery but their guy is allowed the freedom of the pitch to pick out the man in the middle.

Crossing is actually a very low percentage opportunity for a goal as modern analytics has highlighted.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 9:44 amOld fashioned play, ball crossed into the 6 yard box from the right wing and the striker heads it in, simple and effective and has been done since the earliest times of football being played.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 9:35 am Unbelievable really that last goal.

Unless you defend like that

From the commentary it sounded like Happe had an absolute stinker.

Not a shocking goal look at it properly ffs the wind catches that ball just right it was meant for the first player not the second oneApple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 9:35 am Unbelievable really that last goal.

Re: HIGHLIGHTS: Cheltenham Town 2-1 Leyton Orient
Was actually just about to say this - the wind holding back the long ball upfield wrong footed Coulson, then the deflected shot off him fell perfectly for the scorer. But one of Happe or Brophy should have been with the goalscorer.Lucky7 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:27 amNot a shocking goal look at it properly ffs the wind catches that ball just right it was meant for the first player not the second oneApple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 9:35 am Unbelievable really that last goal.

Re: HIGHLIGHTS: Cheltenham Town 2-1 Leyton Orient
So? You’re right that for both goals the luck didn’t favour us much. But letting two crosses in, especially the second, with no pressure on the winger opens yourself up to things like that. Conditions were the same for both teams.Lucky7 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:27 amNot a shocking goal look at it properly ffs the wind catches that ball just right it was meant for the first player not the second oneApple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 9:35 am Unbelievable really that last goal.

The first was from a deflected shot after Coulson's attempted block, not from letting a cross in.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:49 amSo? As I explained in a previous thread the wind really picked up in the second half to Orients disadvantage unfortunately

Fine. But what has the wind got to do with giving their winger 20 yards of space between him and the closest defender and being able to deliver that ball in.Lucky7 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 12:01 pmAgain your wrongApple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:49 amSo? Wouldn't you agree that generally thats regarded as bad defending regardless of if its rainy and windy, or 30 degrees without a cloud in the sky?

I like him, and he will get better, but never really understood the hype around him being able to play in the prem. Cant see it HAPPEning.
