So you start the game with a LW at LB, our best midfielder at RB, two strikers as wingers, a winger as a CM and you wonder why we lacked cohesion in what was a truly crap first half. I'm torn between wanting us to win every game and the management to work out how bad a manager Embleton is.
Vigouroux - 7 - for his first half save and dealing with some very dodgy back passes
Brophy - 7 - yet again our best defender
Happe - 5 - had a mare
Coulson - 6 - great in the air and varied between being average/godawful on the floor
Marsh - 6- did okay at the back, can't cross
Cisse - 7- a few ropy passes but did an excellent job protecting the defence (which needed protecting)
Clay - 6 - scuttled around aimlessly as usual
Dayton - 6 - did okay, got lucky with his goal
Johnson - 5- played out of position and had the first touch of James Alabe, can only get better
Angol - 5.5 - half a point extra for forcing the own goal. Is not a target man and it takes him an age to decide where to pass the ball
Wilkinson - 8 - wonderfully arrogant and if given the opportunity to run at players through the middle would have definitely got on the score sheet
JMD - 6.5 - played awfully at the weekend but should have started
Wright - 6 - whatever

Re: Ratings
Vigaroux - 5. Not much to do again. Just about done it all. Still clearly a massive upgrade on anything we’ve had in a long time.
Marsh - 6. Solid enough as ever but most pleasing thing was he’d clearly been instructed to make his first touch a positive one. A lot more forward balls than we’re used to seeing from him.
Coulson - 5. Looking slow and heavy.
Happe - 5. Sloppy on the ball.
Brophy - 6. Nowhere near as much going forward but kept an absolute speed freak of a winger quiet all game.
Cisse - 5. Not up to the heights of his first few games but again, massive improvement on what we’re used to in midfield.
Clay - 6. Much better from him. Full of his usual energy but also looked comfortable on the ball and played some decent passes to our own players.
Dayton - 4. Totally anonymous. Lucky goal. Rightfully subbed.
Wilko - 6. Some sublime pieces of skill in the second half but missing for large parts of the game, most notably all of the first 45 mins.
Angol - 5. Not enough stuck.
Johnson - 4. He doesn’t work in this winger/wide striker role.
Subs
Wright - n/a.
JMD - 6. Much much better.

Re: Ratings
Wilkinson might as well have sat in the East stand in the first half, but in the second we gave him the ball more and he showed what he can do. Fantastic feet for a big bloke.RedO wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 10:10 pm Vigaroux - 5. Not much to do again. Just about done it all. Still clearly a massive upgrade on anything we’ve had in a long time.

Brophy and Marsh have both been excellent as full backs so what are you talking about?jamespevans wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2020 10:00 pm So you start the game with a LW at LB, our best midfielder at RB, two strikers as wingers, a winger as a CM and you wonder why we lacked cohesion in what was a truly crap first half. Are you serious about Marsh? Re: Ratings
I'm finding the marks a bit negative tbh, perhaps because I missed Saturdays game.
Firstly I noticed the difference in style of play not having Wright and JMD start. Clay and Johnson fed off one another's industry and we went at them for 30 minutes. After that we were content to dominate without scoring intent, until Dayton took advantage of a poor keeping performance. Then, having been told they could go on and win it, they looked like they were going to, only to concede very easily. At that point Wilkinson was proving genuinely unplayable. Another goal of considerable fortune (it looked like it went behind their keeper) restored a lead that was deserved. The players that were a bit off were Johnson and Happe; the ones to be marked up a bit were Wilko and Coulson, who put himself in the right place repeatedly. A special mention for the Vigoroux save at 1-0; only a tall and fast keeper gets that. Brill does not, nor does Sarge. Very good.
On a cold night I though the team put a shift in.

The problem is he is too cautious and doesn’t get forward enough to get in positions to do so.

Re: Ratings
Think we need to give Judd a run of 5-6 games so we can see what he really is and whether he is worth persisting with long term.
Marsh is better, but he's also not our player.

Re: Ratings
Very positive line up tonight and really we should have won more comfortably.
Clay was much improved and must have been working on his passing recently in training.
I think it was Happe who hit the post when he really should have scored early in the first half with that chance.
Marsh is better at RB than either Judd or Ling and Cisse looks a good signing and hopefully we can get him in for next season.
Wilkinson Showed some great footwork tonight for a big lad and maybe should have had a penalty ??
Another thing I noticed tonight was Dean Brill. More vocal than Ross and giving out a lot of instructions etc
Overall a welcome three points with a patchy performance but I think we’ve played better than that in other games and lost or drawn.

Re: Ratings
Thought Clay was quite a bit better on the ball today. Haven't been his biggest fan this season but he's stepped it up recently I think, maybe because of Cisse's introduction, his composure and strength in the middle has made a massive difference.
Still lack a player who makes himself available for the ball from the defence, lost count the number of times Happe and Coulson passed it between themselves with no option going forward.
All for keeping Marsh for next year also, could be first-choice at RB or at CB.

Re: Ratings
On the one occasion Marsh gets into the opponents half per game, I agree, he puts in a good ball.
Judd is clearly rash but will learn with game time. I’m happy for him to carry on with his aggressive attitude.

Re: Ratings
Match highlight was watching Wright trap and caress the ball in midfield, using a rather economic 15 touches and then gently chipping the ball into touch some 10 yards ahead of any of our attacking players.
It was classic Wright - cultured drivel
