Apple fined for slowing down phones

Question is are Apple being legitimate in their reasoning for slowing phones, or is it just a ploy to keep sales high?

End of the day though for most they simply just upgrade after two years, but with costs of phones increasing we are starting to see three year contracts and should this become the norm, we could well see more people become unhappy thst their phones are slowing down whilst still locked into a contract.

I had an iPhone 6 for nearly 5 years before upgrading last summer and it still worked absolutely fine. The battery life definitely declines sharply after a year or so, but most phones with performance issues have been drained by their users allowing apps to update in the background, never switching on do not disturb etc.

It comes down to transparency and trust. Had Apple put a simple pop-up message up when the slowdown kicked in and given the user a choice to disable it there would be no problem. However they denied it for years and tried to make the observations a conspiracy theory, eventually the truth comes out though.

Doesn't matter though as their products are top-notch so people will keep buying them

I binned apple for good when that became apparent, I phoned them and complained and they basically said I’m dreaming it! Told them to shove it, next day went out and bought a brand new Samsung and will never go back. My Samsung is the superior model to any apple phone as apple take the best bits from Samsung a bit later. Apple is easy to use though, much easier than the Samsung, but the Samsung does more. To boot my phone never slowed down, never had a battery issue.

Samsung all day long for me.

Next time dump the Samsung and get OnePlus, pure Android without any of Samsung's garbage software that hits battery life and ruins the UI. All at a cheaper price point too 8-)

I'm fine with Samsungs...I still have my faithful S4 and also an old S7562 I use as an MP 3 player when on the bike.

It's actually better than most dedicated MP 3 players I've had over the years and the battery lasts four commutes plus I can change or charge the battery anyway.

Never got on with Apple.Have a few Apple 4 phones in the draw and an Ipod 32gb thingy which I found.

The Ipod thingy looks good,though.

Apple will say the alternative is that your phone will switch itself off due to a failing battery if they didn't throttle the processor. What they and all manufacturers should do is make the batteries easily replaceable as they are often the first thing to fail.

FFS. If youse don't like capitalism and being conned by avaricious, cheating rip off merchants stop voting for it, or at least stop whinging when the next big company is revealed to have been royally shafting youse.

They've decided to go down the waterproof route which meant that batteries could no longer be easily replaced. It's still possible, though at a expensive cost.

I have an iphone 6s which I took it apart and replaced the battery and was surprised how untidily it was put together, bits of torn off tape for insulation and soldering that a ten year old could have done better.( or possibly did for that matter) I had the screen replaced for £30 so it will last for a couple more years at least. The problem is I am being persecuted by Virgin Media telesales because I wont buy a new phone and they are only getting £7 a month out of me. I told the last one who called that if it didn't stop all my contracts for TV etc would be cancelled. Been quiet for a few days.
