Afternoon all.
Just wondered if anyone on here has done Veganuary or gone veggie? Interested to hear how you felt after almost a month.
I decided pre xmas to give a vegetarian / pescetarian diet a go for a month with xmas dinner being the last meat I ate. 5 weeks diet of lentils, veggie moussaka, stuffed aubergine, peppers etc, and occasional bit of salmon I'm pleasantly surprised by how much better and fitter I feel. 5lb lost so far in weight and can honestly say I've not missed chicken, beef, lamb sausages or bacon and have decided to carry on for the time being.
One thing I can heartily recommend is Papa John's butternut squash base pizza. A true revelation that makes you never want to plough through dough again.

Yes, but how's the flatulence?

Not given up meat but don’t have it that much anymore.
In fact, was starving this morning and after eating well this month, treated myself to a sausage baguette which was objectively quite nice but afterwards it made me feel a bit sick, slow and tired.

Getting a bit tired of all the vegan propaganda about, saw a poster today saying 'Dont be a carnibore'. Food outlets falling over themselves to come out with vegan products.
I can imagine a future where eating a real steak will be the sort of thing only the wealthiest 1% can do.

Kind of dipping our toes in as well. We've started with ditching the meat and refined foods, upping the pulses and veg and seeing where it takes us. Only been a week so far (what kind of sadist attempts anything like this on 1st Jan?) but all good.
Noted the papa johns butternut squash base pizza suggestion, will report back.

Well done admin, I’m not sure I could give up meat if I’m honest. Keep it going as people who I know who went vegan and used to do iron man stuff said they had so much more energy and suffered with less fatigue so there must be something in it.

Daughter is Vegetarian and has been for several years and my wife has just gone pescetarian three months ago, They still manage to eat some lovely looking meals. Wife has lost some weight and says she has more energy throughout the day and feels fitter she is also doing Pilates and isn't missing meat at all.
I eat mainly chicken and have cut out Red meat although I still can't turn down the odd bacon sandwich. It certainly seems a healthier lifestyle and for those who criticise it or think it's hyped up I would say just ignore the fact that some people make different lifestyle choices it's not hype it the way some people choose to live, not for everyone but I can see the benefits.

No worse than usual. Pleased to report that bowel movements are more regular which equals more time reading on the toilet.

Agree entirely - had to laugh when Burger King launched a vegan range which isn't suitable for vegans because of how it's prepared. Veganism is likely a step too far for me although some vegan dishes we've tried over this month have been surprisingly quite nice. Still need milk and cheese though.

Could these people who are 'feeling fitter' be doing so because they are consuming fewer calories and more veg?

Was the BK thing because its cooked on the same grill? Dont see the problem as its not like these people have a meat allergy.

Not having a dig but your post reminded me of a History teacher at my school. In a class he once came out with (and I paraphrase):
Being homosexual used to be illegal, now its legal, soon it will be compulsory!

You always ruin it don't you?
Sure it's part of it although I do feel less bloated, heavy and tired than before. Might be the columbian talc that's making things better though.

Sounds like 90% of the teachers I had back in the mid 1980s. Some of which eventually came out.

With a combination of factors like the below you can see it happening
climate change
cultural change
lab meats
I actually hope they can find a way to just grow meat in a lab.

These Animals are bred specifically for the food industry.
These are not animals that just happened to appear .
They have been bred to be slaughtered.
The only thing i see in the link you showed was
severely untrained unskilled workers.

Only from the age of 18 until i was maybe 30
Did i eat meat everyday.
Only eat meat maybe 2-3 times a week now
Much as i did when i was a kid.
I wouldnt class myself as a meat eater a vegan or a vegetarian or a pescatarian.
Far to many labels these days.
It does make me laugh at the laziness of vegetarian vegan projects calling things
Veggie sausage rolls or quorn bacon slices etc.
Just call it something new ffs .
Id rather try something new & tasty than compare it to something its trying not to be.
Had a Vegetarian pastie at the O's last season for the 1st time.Best thing id ever eaten at the O's .
