Saracens

Have been docked another 70 points for salary cap regulations. Rugby don’t mess around unlike toothless football. They now sit on minus 77 points and relegation is now confirmed.

Salary caps is something football needs to look at, controlling clubs over spending is a constant battle as we see more clubs approach the brink. Sanctions, in football no one is scared as they know nothing will happen and bad owners will continue to bend the laws of the game to the max. SAracens tried it and now it’s relegation.

Agree completely Thor, the football authorities may talk a good game, but they are weak and ultimately football suffers as a result.

Agreed - but they should also be stripped of titles too IMO.

Its bonkers that Saracens thought they'd get away with it. Whoever is responsible for that sort of thing needs sacking with immediate effect.

I dont know who is responsible, Wray put his hands up for responsibility and stepped down, the finance guy has gone, walked or sacked who knows, but it is certainly bad.

I suspect there will be a few other pro RUFCs keeping their heads down because they’ve been doing similar to get round the blunt salary cap rules. Sarries will probably take their demotion punishment without protest, but it’s the old rules avoidance/evasion thin line, that could possibly be challenged in Court. As in soccer, money buys you success in the pro-competitions, and Saracens have just had more of it in recent years.

[disclosure: I don’t really enjoy modern pro RU as a spectator sport, so don’t pay it that much attention, but played it at a decent enough amateur club level to turn out for Sarries 2nds and 3rds in the 80s over Bramley Road until injury curtailed my involvement - where Saracens Amateur RFC remain based. So they are “my” club]

Hard to have a salary cap throughout the world and having one in one country will give clubs from other countries without one an advantage. This is the issue in Rugby. The Premiership teams have to adhere to a salary gap whereas the Pro 14 clubs don't.

Also I think it is unfair on Saracens supporters and especially their season ticket holders. They have had their current season rendered invalid through no fault of their own.

And finally, Saracens need not try too hard in the Premiership now, and select reserves and save themselves for the Champions Cup. This gives them an advantage over Leinster in preparing for the quarter final. Not that I am in any way bitter that Munster were knocked out by Saracens :-(

So lets get this right.
Whatever happens Saracens get relegated at the end of the season. How ever many points they get.
They have already had 35 points deducted, then this new deduction of 70. Why?
I understand the first deduction was before they were relegated but the second deduction is worthless.
Just like in formula one, penalties over 20 mean back of grid, change gear box, engine and you are talking nearly 50 places, irrelevant, should be added to next grand prix.

The way it should happen is
2019-2020 relegated with 1 point less than the next bottom. So -105 points less say 29 means 2020-2021 starts with -76 and so on until they have "won" back those points.
Teams would soon get their house in order.

It means mathematically they can’t get enough points to stay even if they win all their games

I dont see a big difference between
Saracens & Lance Armstrong.

Cheating is Cheating.

Ban the club , remove them from the record books .
