the brawl
Forgive me, I haven't seen it mentioned much on here yet. Was definitely the highlight of the evening for me. Didn't see much detail though, as I sit at the other end of the ground. Anyone get a good sight of how it started, and what ensued?

Re: the brawl
JMD picked the ball up, the bloke that gave the pen away then ripped JMDs head off to get the ball back off of him, Dayton then tried to get the ball of him and they fell to the floor, then everyone else piled in.

Re: the brawl
I saw it on tv last night. It looked like an Orient player and the guy from Northampton were running to get the ball out
of the goal after the penalty was scored, and our man barged their bloke into the goalpost, and their bloke reacted to it.

Re: the brawl
The business of racing back to the centre spot with the ball has always confused me.I believe, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the game only restarts when the team that has conceded the goal kicks off again..so it's not really an advantage to either side how quickly or slowly the ball is delivered back to the middle...

It doesn't happen in Rugby or cricket (or snooker for that matter).sopranO wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 5:35 pm The business of racing back to the centre spot with the ball has always confused me.I believe, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the game only restarts when the team that has conceded the goal kicks off again..so it's not really an advantage to either side how quickly or slowly the ball is delivered back to the middle...

Re: the brawl
Having the ball back on the centre spot and ready to restart probably motivates the ref to get on with the game again though, (i.e. hurrying up the team kicking off to get going), otherwise the kicking off team could just fartarse around and slowly return the ball to the middle and take their own sweet time in restarting.sopranO wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 5:35 pm The business of racing back to the centre spot with the ball has always confused me.I believe, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the game only restarts when the team that has conceded the goal kicks off again..so it's not really an advantage to either side how quickly or slowly the ball is delivered back to the middle...
Re: the brawl
It is true in one sense, it is probably marginal and only buys a few more seconds.
The main aspect is psychological, telling the other team that 'we think we can win this, we don't want a draw'.
If it was a cup tie against National League opponents we would have done it, but like I said I think it reflects the dressing room thinking that a point is a good result.

Re: the brawl
Good point too. Slowing the game is a momentum killer though and no guarantee the ref adds on a similar additonal time from delaying the restart. Keeping the ball out of play is a good tactic when you don't want to throw a result away.eagwgw wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 9:18 am It is true in one sense, it is probably marginal and only buys a few more seconds.

What is it they have to add on? 30 seconds for each goal or substitution?Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 9:12 amHaving the ball back on the centre spot and ready to restart probably motivates the ref to get on with the game again though, (i.e. hurrying up the team kicking off to get going), otherwise the kicking off team could just fartarse around and slowly return the ball to the middle and take their own sweet time in restarting.sopranO wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 5:35 pm The business of racing back to the centre spot with the ball has always confused me.I believe, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the game only restarts when the team that has conceded the goal kicks off again..so it's not really an advantage to either side how quickly or slowly the ball is delivered back to the middle...
If it takes longer than 30 seconds to restart the game, then time is being lost.
Have a watch of some of the Orient clips on Youtube from the 70s or 80s, even into the early 90s, and it's amazing how little time it took from scoring a goal to the match restarting. It's nothing like that nowadays - it's not seconds you're saving, it's potentially minutes.

If you want to speed up restart after a goal then you need to change lawsRedO wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 11:36 amWhat is it they have to add on?

1. Allow game to restart at conceding teams discretion ie they can kick off whilst opposition are performing their choreographed celebration routine.
2. Make it a bookable offence for any player on scoring team to touch the ball until game has restarted ( to stop them kicking ball away)
Job done...team with over elaborate celebration will find they have conceded whilst celebrating

Re: the brawl
But how would that have ensured Northampton didn't time waste after scoring on Tuesday night?
This is about us wanting to restart quickly. They obviously didn't want to.

removing law re bookings for celebrations and removing the law preventing opposition taking kick offs quickly. And only 1 new law, so a net reduction of 1
