Happe not a left back
Brophy not a left back
Sweeney Left back on the bench
Ogie Left back on loan to Dover
Anyone know how long or how bad Widdowsons injury is
Marvin not a right back
Marsh not a right back
Judd right back on the bench
I’m baffled ?

Marsh has played at RB for Spurs. The rest is baffling indeed.

I stand corrected didn’t realise GM had played RB for Spurs

Judd is decent but a liability. sent off at Cambridge and should have gone on Saturday at Port Vale, he needs to temper his aggression/enthusiasm if he is going to get anywhere near fulfilling his potential.
That said the lottery that is our full back selection it seems ridiculous that we don't select specialist players in that position when they are available or haven't brought in players to deputise specially Widdowson.

If Happe’s not a left back clap your hands
If brophys not a left back clap your hands
If you’re Ling and you can’t defend a thing
Then you’ll walk into the team when your old man claps his hands

Not very often he hasn't, two or three times max. He's been played at centre half but no one would call him a centre half at 5'7". In fact he's played centre half considerably more often than he's played right back.

I was advocating for Marsh playing right back for ages, I think he has been great there and should be first choice currently for that position

He’s also in my eyes our best central midfielder.

Agree, he looks comfortable there. Don't rate him much in CM though, not physical enough and don't really see him scoring either in the event Cissé takes the defensive midfield duties.
With Ling out for considerable future, Judd looking a bit dicey as first choice Marsh would make sense. Might also explain why we're still being linked with midfielders.
Got to try and get a LB in as Widdowson doesn't seem to be getting any closer to a return - it timescale gets pushed back by a week every week

He played against United in preseason at RB, that's where I watched him play quite well.

Sorry KC but Stan was a right back and captain most of his years at O's.

As important as full backs are, my major concern is at the other end of the team.
Goals from ‘open play ‘ are becoming as rare as home wins .
Thank God for the two penalties against Grimsby and Northampton.

Marsh is not a full back.
Have a look at the goal Northampton scored on Tuesday night - a proper full back would have covered round and helped pick up the extra man. He hasn't got that in his game. I'd also be concerned about him being targeted aerially if played in a flat back four.
He doesn't get forward enough and drive at or past players, with or without the ball. And that's all part of a full backs game these days, especially when playing as a wing back as he was supposed to be on Tuesday. Judd obviously does that, even a big old lump like Turley looks more dynamic in that position.
The exact same comments were made about Lawless - and Clay - when they've been stuck in that position. They look tidy on the ball, they can do a tackle or two, they do a job there. But they upset the balance of the team. (Same sort of thing applies to Ling - he looks to me like a failed CM who has been pushed into that slot to make a career in the game).
George is a defensive central midfielder. He just needs to get a bit better at that.

Phil Hoadley was a right back.

Given our current predicament, I would go 4-4-2 and play Judd and Brophy as full backs, with Happe and one of Marvin and Coulson alongside him (depending on the opposition).
I'd then stick Cissse and Marsh in front of the back 4 and give both full backs licence to bomb on.
We may leave ourselves vulnerable down the flanks but as long as we have bodies centrally and keep it tight there, that's a chance worth taking.
(Although given Dayton's suspension and Dennis's trip to Boco Island, maybe we haven't got enough wingers to fulfil that after all).

How many times do we supporters say that Brophy is not a full back. He is being wasted in this position. Marsh is not a full back .its about time we realise that 2new full backs are required. Ling and Widdowson are both injury prone . We cannot go on thinking that we can fill these positions with other players in the squad . Why put out Ogie and put Sweeney on the bench if you won’t play them.
