RIP George. He took my mate from Orient to Brighton when we were kids.

He also had a big part in our greatest ever player Laurie Cunningham.

Good manager for the O's. Brought in a lot of Palace players and blended them well into Orients teams over the years.

R.I.P. A good guy.

He did ok for us, a very steady manager, we had a pretty mean defence in those days, the likes of Hoadley and Roeder in it, and that invariably kept us up, despite the lack of goals.

Oh no, very sad. We played some great football under George. I wrote a letter to him and he invited me to the ground and spent the whole afternoon discussing players ,tactics ect. I berated him for signing derek posse , but he told me that he had lined up ray grayden a terrific player from Aston Villa , who ironically scored the goal that stopped us going up to the top flight, and chairman whinston signed posse while he was abroad with the team. He then resigned over it but was persuaded to reconsider.
A true gentleman. R.i.p George , and thanks for the memories.

Not only Laurie but also Bobby Fisher, Glenn Roeder and Tony Grealish as well.

George was also in charge of the run to the quarter finals of the FA cup in 72 as well as making us an established team in the 2nd tier of English football during his time here. The 78 side that reached the semifinals was also pretty much his squad.

He was also responsible for some excellent signings, who amongst us oldies, reached almost legendary status. John Jackson, Bill Roffey, Gerry Queen, Phil Hoadley and Joe Mayo to name but a few.

He was the first English coach to complete all EUFA coaching badges as well.

Although underrated by some IMO he was probably the best manager we ever had.
