McAnuff

Post by gshaw »

Just read someone say on here he's just passed his coaching badges. As a plot twist it could be an interesting way to get out of the current mess...

- comes across as a bit more level-headed and intelligent than Embleton
- commands respect from his achievements as a player
- would get a lot of fans on side, I reckon even some of those not convinced by RE
- solves 6 months of non-value playing contract and avoids him going through more ops
- Embleton can go back to being an assistant where he feels more comfortable

Maybe, just maybe?

Either would I. Surely it would be a better option than Ross.

Would he be a Kevin Nolan player/coach though?

Be surprised if we see him playing in a competitive capacity again. Would take the pressure off him on that front as he seems to be needing lots of operations to try and get back to playing.

A far better option than Embleton. It wouldn’t take him long to exert more influence over Ling as well. I would be happy.

TBH I think Jobi might be smart enough to give it a swerve.

I don't think Ling would exert the same type of influence over him, and as such he would not get the same job protection if it went wrong.

Anyone coming in to the job at present can be seen to have being dealt a bad hand. I think the expectations for next season will be high and mid-table would be seen as being a bit of a disappointment.

I actually reckon his coaching badges might be used elsewhere.... can see one of the National League teams giving him a chance next year, maybe as player-manager if he still fancies it, but he'd choose a different assistant and not one of the guys here.

If Jobi (or Danny for that matter) has gone to Ling and said, look Ross doesn’t want the job but I do, then fair play, give him the job. Might be the best way out of the limbo we’re in.

At the moment it feels like the biggest need is for someone who inspires confidence and hope. New players - yes, tactics yes, but getting more out of what we've got is a big factor, and we have got some decent L2 players who are weekly underachieving. Could Jobi deliver the much needed inspiration possibly worth so much more to us at this time?

No managerial experience and would be a gamble . It really would be 50/50 if things work out .

Don't get me wrong I'd much prefer an experienced manager who's been around the block a bit, knows the league and can settle the team and compete comfortably in mid-table L2 (for now).

However in light of Ling / Macklin's comments about retaining all the coaching setup as-is such an appointment looks highly unlikely. Out of what we have I just get a feeling personality-wise McAnuff would make a better job of it than Embleton, we've already seen Jobi is a natural leader on the pitch and I think he could translate that off it too.

I agree Jobi definitely has the potential to be a good manager . It would be very much a " try it and see" scenario . Like I said , it could go either way .

Exeter I believe did the same

If we are not going to bring in a proven external league one or two manager I fail to see what risk Jobi would create

It's impossible to play football at the level he has as a captain and be an international too and not to be inspiring and Jobi would know which player is best suited to a position for the agreed tactics

Its football and he has enough knowledge
Taking in all the comments and points raised in this thread, if its going to be a choice between Jobi and Ross, then I would go for Jobi anytime.

Can you imagine the tensions behind the scenes if McAnuff got the job over Embleton or Webb? Could be even worse than “Fletchergate”! I really don’t see it as a sensible option tbh.

I did say ''if its going to be a choice between Jobi and Ross, then I would go for Jobi anytime.''
Well if Ross has definitely put himself completely out of the running, then surely he would have little to get upset about, I mean he cant be like a ''Dog with a bone'' and have things all to suit himself can he ! As to Danny, well if that does happen that Jobi gets the job, if he does not like it, well he always has the choice to get a job somewhere else !

I get your drift Sid. If Embleton has decided he doesn’t want the job then, yes, he could hardly complain. I’ve not seen anything that indicates he has come to that conclusion yet and if he still is minded to do the job I would imagine being overlooked in favour of McAnuff now would potentially cause a fair bit of resentment.

Ross hasn’t put himself out of the running. Every invpterview given post fletcher, he’s been cagey. He had a few wins after handing his notice in and I reckon thinks he can do the job now, but doesn’t want the risk of losing his job for life here.

Ross should be nowhere near the head coaches role. He is neither suited nor ready for such a demanding position.

In my opinion.

By the sounds of things Martin Ling thinks differently .
