What happens in May?
If the inevitable happens and Ross is made permanent manager for the rest of the season what I’d to know is what happens in May, when the season is over? As far I as can tell there are three possible outcomes for this season. The first two scenarios has relatively obvious outcomes:
1. Ross is appointed, the season goes from bad to worse and we are relegated back to the conference. Simple, Ross gets the boot (if he hadn’t been dismissed already).
2. Ross is appointed and by some miracle we go on an outstanding run, reaching the play-off spots. Even if we don’t go up in the play-offs all will agree that it’s an exceptional achviement. Ross gets a contract extension having finally proved himself. I cannot see this scenario happening.
But scenario 3, which happens to be the one I think is most likely is making me worry.
3. Ross is appointed and the club saunter on, avoiding relegation but finish in an uninspiring bottom half position (anywhere from 23rd to 16th).
What happens next?
Do they sack him and end his relationship with the club (but harsh)?
Do they demote him back to first team coach (which would be pretty humiliating)?
Do they extend his contract? This would be most frustrating as we’d likely find ourselves exactly where are now a year on.
What exactly will Ross be judged on? What is the target this season?
The whole thing is a mess. Justin passing put the club in an incredibly difficult and unfamiliar situation but they have handled it exceptionally badly in my opinion.

Re: What happens in May?
Nobody knows what's happening at the moment, it's just an on going shambles.
Re: What happens in May?
Chances of relegation are slim. But it seems that the fans will forgive Ross for being dealt a bad hand. I do, we are very poor at the moment but for the most part it ain't his fault. He's trying his best but he's been thrown out there while the rest of the senior staff at the club are hiding.
I think the fans opinion is pretty unanimous: many players are not good enough, sentiment has clouded judgement this year and we need a fresh start with many changes. Opinion is also growing that the structure of the club is preventing managers from coming in, and the nature of the process used to assess potential ones is not fit for purpose.
To me it seems simple: create a new role for Ross, notionally being the boss of the academy side but also take over some of Lingy's reporting duties along with Macklin. We could set up an U-23 team at small cost using some of the Premiership cast-offs which Webb and Jobi would be good for. For a man of his skill-set this could be viewed as a promotion.
DoF role abolished, create a new shiny role for Ling which puts him out of the way 'Director of Global Operations' or some other rubbish if they want to give him a soft landing. New manager and assistant come in and have full control on first-team playing matters and are assessed on results.
Don't really see the downsides in any of that.

Re: What happens in May?
There is only one relegation place.
Macclesfield look like they will be even weaker in January after players leave to get paid elsewhere.
If we are in the poo poo we will splash the cash on some mercenary free transfers.
Skybet have us at 16/1 to go down... the implied probability is 5.9%. I don't believe that price offers value and would not be a taker at that price, therefore I say the chances of relegation are slim. It may be the case that a record low points level is needed this year.
If you do believe the chances of relegation are 10%+ you should be all over that bet.

Re: What happens in May?
That assumes Ling has been doing anything to address our chronic weak areas. The way the interviews have gone suggest the only player that was a definite was the keeper.
If we keep losing and not winning against sides around us it comes down to grit and will to grind out enough points to avoid the drop. This squad with Embleton "leading" (I use that term very lightly) seems to have precious little of that fighting mentality.
Right now I see more chance of the squad being weakened over the transfer window than strengthened.

Re: What happens in May?
I disagree on your point about fighting to be fair. I think in the last few games whilst we have been short on quality, we've at least become a bit harder to score against, clinging on well for 3 points at Cambridge and a point at Newport.gshaw wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 5:13 pmThat assumes Ling has been doing anything to address our chronic weak areas. If that happens it's goodbye EFL and hello National League .gshaw wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 5:13 pmThat assumes Ling has been doing anything to address our chronic weak areas. The way the interviews have gone suggest the only player that was a definite was the keeper.

In May?
I go on a walking holiday on Mull, safe in the knowledge that the Mighty Os will play Div II footie next season.

The downside is that it won’t happen . It will cost to much money to put righteagwgw wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 3:52 pm Chances of relegation are slim. Re: What happens in May?
Both of this games needed closing out, Newport was just luck more than judgement. There was no fight second half outside the back 4 at Newport, not one player from CM onwards wanted to throw themselves into a tackle and they had plenty opportunities in the build-up to the goal to do that.Red_Army wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 5:37 pmI disagree on your point about fighting to be fair. Becoming more difficult to score against is pretty much down to Turley's return in place of Coulson. More physical and aggressive at the back with better pace and recovery. The rest in front of him aren't pulling their weight.
