Time To Start Preparing The Excuses

Not long now until the election results.

Its time for everyone to start preparing their excuses to explain why they really won the election despite not getting a majority or even most seats

Time to start preparing the excuses to explain why getting 50 seats less than another party is actually a win.

Time to start preparing the excuses as to why your party has lost seats / votes and why it is still a successful campaign.

Time to start claiming how the election result is justification and a mandate for the obscure item at page 953 of your party's manifesto.

Irrespective of the party, its hilarious to see the spin put on the results by the parties and their supporters.

Perhaps we should have a sweepstake on the excuses / spin that will follow the results

I liked the one where just over 25% of the population voting to leave the EU was a clear mandate for suicidal hard Brexit.

Yes, this does happen, Spenny The opposite occurs with the “winning” party who immediately claim their whole campaign and policies have been vindicated, and clearly the whole country thinks they are marvellous people, despite getting nowhere near even half the votes.

Not too many of the most visible politicians have impressed me greatly this time round. Swinson & Farage have been beyond dire. Sturgeon has been decent and the Plaid spokesmen has been good. Corbyn hasn’t managed to dodge beyond the avalanche of smears and commie-spookery this time around to convince enough centrists, whilst Johnson has mostly stuck to his vacuous “get brexit done” soundbite and avoided major pratfalls and difficult questioning (that dreadful Leeds hospital thing yesterday apart).

Farage has been ok. The only one who held his own with Andrew Neil. Labour think MSM are against them, and they are, but they hate Farage as well. The Tory papers especially. They have been cranking it up for weeks. Whatever happens I hope everyone is unhappy.

I didn’t see Farage face Neil, but it’s true he’s usually good at straight talking and articulating an argument in those situations. But as soon as he decided not to stand himself and only field candidates in Non-Tory seats he’d tactically blown any chance of holding onto the majority of votes he picked up in the EU elections or win any seats. And yes, the Tory papers were always going to do what they could to convince Brexit Party types to come back to the Blue fold - made that much easier by standing aside in their seats.

Didn’t you say that you weren’t going to post about politics until after the election?

You set up a whole thread for your big announcement and everything.

And even less voted to stay.

However, I can be 99.999% certain that no political party will win more than 17.4m votes. Let's make it 100% certain.

However, whoever wins the election runs the country for up to 5 years.

Actually, I take it all back, no party needs to start preparing excuses....from reading this board, its clear the answer to every perceived failing is "Blame Martin Ling" and any success is achieved "Despite Martin Ling"

Can't wait to see the party spokespersons trot these out on Friday

It's not going to happe anytime soon. The support for another referendum is ebbing away as the sensible and proud Scots have awoken to the plan of wee Jimmy krankie.

I've no real opinion on Scottish independence but the no side don't have a monopoly on sense or pride. I don't think it is really possible for an Englishman to have a properly unbiased opinion on it, which is why I stay away from it.

Usual reposonce from a clown who can't argue back his own points, especially when the polls suggest that the people are indeed moving away from another referendum.

Still typical left wing response, shout down the poster with moronic language. Says more about you than me.

I'm sure you're right. You always are. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with a silly sausage like you.

Cos we are part of a union going back hundreds of years and one which has been very successful. Set that against a common market cos that’s what my parents voted on, not what it’s become, which is only what a few years old in comparison, a union that’s failing, that punishes countries, and is not transparent. Laws are passed by faceless people which are created by people you can’t vote out.

I’d say it’s better we stay together than be apart.

" Laws are passed by faceless people which are created by people you can’t vote out."

I thought that we elected the people who appoint the faceless ones via the Ministerial Councils. If you don't like who they pick vote them out.
