Exiles/Matchday thread vs Oldham 7th Dec

Post by EliotNes »

Somebody has to start one.

Sitting at home in deepest, darkest Suffolk doing the Christmas cards and watching Josh Koroma make his first (?) start for Huddersfield. I'll be listening to Dulcet Dave's dulcet tones from 3 o'clock. Not confident about today but hoping for a surprise.

COYOs

All the best to you all (including "Faith" - who has their own thread).

At home feeling proper grotty, let’s hope the team perform better than my body feels right now.

Sam Ling keeps his spot whilst the rest of the defence is changed about 😂

No one saw that XI coming, finally Clay taken out (even if it is due to illness).

Coulson dropped right call but as above amazing Ling keeps his spot again. I think the writing is on the wall for Ekpiteta leaving in Jan, seems to be getting slowly removed from our plans.

Great stuff. Hope for a good result. Big game for Kyprianou.

Seems odd to recall Sotiriou and then not even give him a bench spot.

Rather have two strikers on the bench rather than two centre backs, or even three wingers which is what we have here.

Looks like 4-3-1-2? Hopefully the bold move pays off

I personally think we are suited to the old Xmas tree formation. 4-3-2-1

Gshaw I said the other day, ling plays and it’s not going to change anytime soon that’s for sure.

Interesting team. Is this RE making a statement to some of the more senior players that he's staying and this is the crux of his new team.

Well I hope Ling puts in a few good, deep long throws.

Coulson dropped. That’s a big move.

Good luck to Kyprianou. Straight into the first XI. Time to make a name for yourself, son.

More a case of having to change something as doing the same thing isn't yielding different results. CM hasn't worked all season so bring someone else in and try something new.

Not convinced by Sargeant though, if you're the Oldham manager right now just tell players to shoot low and you're guaranteed a goal.

At CB the only argument you can make is for Turley's experience leading the defence. Otherwise Ekpiteta, Happe and Turley RB is proven and already played together.
UpminsterO wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2019 2:17 pm I don't see any matches but what I have seen of Ling on Internet is good
A few games ago he scored a nice header and he saved one of the line with a very good header

I feel sorry for him as he will never win people over it seems because the trend is they don't like the ML DOF role

Remember he was a England C full back and we won last year with him playing and John Still would never of picked him if he was as useless as portrayed on here
He had an excellent half season when he first came in, lost the plot last year when JE had to bring Turley in to settle RB and has been consistently average 5/10 or 6/10 this year. Turley much better option there for pace and strength imo.

Bonkers to have two centre halves on the bench.

Ling is the best defender in the history of the club.

I know Turley has played mostly at right back for us, but isn't he a central defender?

Also what position does Kyprianou play?

The trouble is like gshaw said, last year SL was useless and the stats absolutely back that up. It can also be argued that no matter what happens to others he is the first name down on the team sheet, even if he was poor in the previous game. We’ve also taken to playing him out of position so as to shoe horn him in the side. He was also given a new contract when in reality he didn’t deserve one at that point as he hadn’t proven he deserved one.

However, saying all that he has had a better season than last, although to be honest that isn’t difficult cos he was that bad last season.

You also have the issue with Judd who does not seem to get a fair crack of the whip from a fans perspective, of course we dont see him every day so it’s hard to judge what the hell is going on, but it does seem that an unfairness is going on in respect to him.

Personally he would not be in my team if I were managing it as I believe both Judd and Turley are far superior to him. Still to prove my point, Turley played the other week at right back and had a stormer something we’ve not had in one game this season in that position. Next game SL gets put back in his position and the defence is chopped to accommodate Turley in the centre, its stuff like that which grates on the fans as the bias shows through in our faces.

Cos RE is clueless. Game over we have not got the bottle to fight back.
