I’m confused, McDonnell said that the 4 day week will apply to everyone. Last night Corbyn said the NHS is exempt from it. So can someone clear up what the actual policy is for me please?

The french tried to bring in a 4 day week, but it seemed to get shelved after the financial crisis. Let’s face it their workers have better protections and benefits than ours have, so it’s an interesting concept for sure.

I am on a 0 hours week. Still don't have enough time to do the things I want to do ( or cash ). The trouble with being retired is, that when you are a bit short of the " readies " nobody pays you extra money when you do overtime.

Tuffers that is the problem. 71% of GP's only work part time, because of the amount they are paid and hours worked. To put this in context it is in part because of the pension and tax issues (I am sure many of us would like to be in this position). But they are also talking about working 11-12 hours a day (welcome to the real world) and no breaks (not what my experience working in GP'S practices).

A recent survey of 840 final year medical students who are training to be GP'S, only 5% expect to be working full time in 10 years time, the remaining between 1.5 & 3 days.

One of my friends decided to work 3 days a week, many years ago, purely because he did not need to work more. Even then he said that the pay was ridiculous, now GP'S average £114k and less than 30% work full time. This tells you where part of the problem is.

The BBC is always bias. It should only report facts, not opinions on news programmes.

Most G.Ps have there own practice or work as 3rd party for the nhs through a practice.

On the 2nd point. Protection wise, I understand from friends that it is almost impossible to sack someone in the public sector. They get a warning then a 2nd warning, when the 3rd warning appears,
they pull their finger out and work properly for 6 months, when these warnings expire.
Then wash and repeat. Private sector a different matter.

Labour want the nhs to be publicly run. How much would it cost to buy all those privately run public practices?

They would just fund them properly.

There’s a difference between turning up for work and turning up and putting in a performance.

No I think you’ll find that the policy has not been explained to the wider public. Tuffers (thank you) put up a post which explained it far better than what’s benn put in the public domain. A 4 day week says to me mon-thurs so the link showed it was reduced hours across the 5 days which is more palatable than dropping a day and employing someone else to cover that period for example.

I am all for reduced hours as someone who was working 60-70 hours a week, my work life balance was wrecked because of it, so I think this needs further exploring as the desire to be asked to do more and more needs to be broken and more quality time given over to the family unit.

I learnt my mistake at great cost.
