just seen Elliot is leaving at the end of this month, anyone know where he's off to?
Done an excellent job at a difficult time IMHO.

It involves tv’s and computers and stuff, Ron. Probably best swerving it.

Let’s hope the new media manager “ process” is more successful than the one for the first team manager!

Blimey, he only said on the mammoth Martin Ling podcast that he was happy in his role.
He must have had an idea at that time that he was off.

Pity it wasn’t Ling off.

Are the club going to hand the role over to an interim media head coach who doesn’t really want the job of media manager for an indefinite time period?

Only after calling for CVs and a four week assessment period for coffees with the DoF.

Only after calling for CVs and a four week assessment period for coffees with the DoF.
And after hiring a media manager who the club binned after 3 weeks because he wanted to update the content of the clubs twitter page

Yep. That was just a blatant lie. He must have handed his notice in at that point.
I think our Comms are good.

Good time for Elliott to leave - got a couple of years of great success behind him, and his excitement/style doesn't suit a club stuck navel-gazing

Didn't rate him in my communications with him. No loss.

Had a look at what the previous incumbent (Charlie Long) is up to, seems he went to Chelsea as a communications executive. So a role with less responsibility, but no doubt much more money. I don't think you can blame these young lads for going, as the pay gap might be very significant, doesn't mean they are unhappy here.
Seems to be par for the course at our club that the media man stays a couple of seasons and then is poached by someone else.
Personally I think this role has become to be spread a bit thinly, social media is much more important nowadays. If it were me in charge I'd get in someone separate to do the social media side: with all the analytics nowadays it may be pretty easy to see if increased engagement can turn better sales.
Not asking to go all Italian football show, but a more 'banterous' branding in line with the 'Real Football in the Capital' tagline could help us get more fans, but we'd need to work on it. For instance, we get around 3k views for match highlights, Hashtag United get 300k.

Number of views is irrelevant if club can't monetise it

I have all the qualifications but I don't think I'll bother.
I guess you'll have to work with the existing team and if they don't like your ideas they'll talk about you behind your back...then go crying to the board about how you haven't .."embraced the culture".

I think we've been relying on the Dream Team tie-in for a lot of that. Club probably knows not to get too involved on social media as it doesn't like what replies come back.
The streaming was a good move forward despite some of the technical quibbles, next step is matchday experience where I reckon there is definitely an opportunity to use digital platforms to engage with fans. Elliot seemed to agree with the concept when I brought it up on FB and said they were looking at it, a project for the next appointment perhaps.

What did you suggest? It’s an interesting concept that deserves looking at cos the experience can leave a lot to be desired.

Similar to something I saw at a tech event where the NFL have a matchday companion app that the fans in the stadium engage with for stuff like...
- team news / lineups
- man of the match vote (could then tie it into the end of season awards and one fan wins a free ticket to go)
- guess the crowd / score
- mini game in the app to play at HT
- matchday offers
All fairly simple functionality but if implemented cleanly gives a neat platform for the club to engage with fans in an official capacity. In time they could tie it up to include digital programme, streaming and so on as functionality matures and improve the value offering of the Orient TV subscription.
