Think I’ll stick with a combustion engine

I’ve been in a Tesla (taxi) from Schipol airport to Rotterdam. I was impressed by its range, power and awesome acceleration. The next family car might be fully electric or a hybrid, need to do further research on the matter.
Anyway the trouble with the electric is the distance then can cover, for example that Tesla would not get our family from our house to my father in laws, we would have to stop and charge for god knows how long and that’s a problem which needs to be resolved in my eyes before they become viable in an every day sense. Our family car can get there and drive around for a while before needing fuel.
Now look at this nightmare.

That's the big big problem and the price, that Tesla is out of the price range of most of us on this board.

That’s just not practical.
The most basic Tesla has a range of 250 miles and can be picked up for £38k or c £400 a month on a lease. Would then require 30-45 mins to recharge back up to 80% capacity.
They’re practical in an ‘everyday sense’, becoming more reasonably priced and just as importantly, great fun to drive.
There’s no issue here.

Only practical (at present) if you have huge amounts of money to spare and also don't drive far
You couldn't for example drive to Newcastle.
If and it's a big if you find a charging point, you need a 40 min stop instead of a 5 min one with a petrol or diesel car

Well, yes.
If you regularly drive a journey in excess of 250 miles and do not want to stop then an electric car, or at least an affordable electric car, is not for you. Most people - present company excepted - would take at least 3 hours to cover a 250 mile journey so should be factoring in a break in any case.
For the vast majority of people doing normal journeys, electric will work.

Correct. Even at rush hour only 10% of cars are in use. Most people don't need cars. They've just got lazy or pushed off public transport because of cost. Corbyn will fix this.

Of course not it's diesel but I do use ablue to reduce emissions.

I admire Max for his ability to efficiently navigate the mean streets of scotchlandshire, and providing excellent value for his passengers, all whilst boarding.
As for electric cars, I can see them becoming an ideal car-sharing option for city dwelllers, where private ownership makes less sense and shorter trips are the norm. There will need to be a lot more investment in charging stations, but it's do-able.

I know a big hitter in in a well known car manufacturer and yes, shared ownership is something they are expecting to happen.

Hypocrisy is all around us and yes I'm one of them. You need to get used to that idea. I can't use an electric car as it doesn't have the range required. Hybrids are too expensive to run as taxis and a subsidy or tax break to encourage us to use them would help.

Electric is definitely the way forward, but very few people are thinking of the environmental issue regards battery disposal.

Electric vehicles help with city air pollution. But they create other problems elsewhere. There is no feasible environmentally sound solution unless we reduce consumption (car sharing may help here) or reduce the population.

OK Max thought you worked the streets of Glasgow - So apologies if that is not the case.
There are now over 100 hybrid electric black cabs on the streets of London (bit pricey at £55k) payback for an average London cabbie takes about two years evidently, they don't seem to have a range issue do about 400 miles it seems and those guys work in heavy traffic. There are purchase subsidies up to £3500 available from the goverment to buy an electric vehicle I believe, so where there's a will there's a way.
