It seems that its no longer possible on here, or in the real world for people to respect but disagree with others views.

Adult debate and discussion no longer seems to exist and few people seem to be prepared to admit that anything someone with an opposing view has said/proposed/ done is reasonable.

We are int oa sad and dangerous polarised state of affairs. Its ironic that back in the 1970s when for example labour relations were far worse, there wasn't the same level ofantaganonism...probably because in those days debate, if at all was face to face, not hidden behind some keyboard abusing some faceless opponent

Ah but hooliganism & racism were rife at football in the 70s .
The politically charged in the right joined NF & were met by the ANL on the left

Plenty of racist crime went unreported as minorities felt
it was a Futile exercise to report hate crimes against them .

Most people worked in unsatusfactory jobs but had strong unions to represent them.

People were helped with COUNCIL HOUSING , which were considerably lower in rent than now.

Very few made profit out of the working class purely to give themselves a comfortable lifestyle without the need to work .

People died much younger in those days .
We are now living longer so pension funds are stretched.

It did seem easier then though.

But that maybe because i was just a kid

You are right of course, but football was limited to once or twice a week, not 24/7. People are now hating people they have never seen and will never see

Great post.

It's almost as if people have needless arguments they'd never actually have in the real life, isn't it. Kind of trying to prove to themselves that they really are smart and their life isn't totally empty and meaningless. Or something.

This board especially the left wing element of it seem to have so much hatred within it.

Its possible people had nore expendable money as they saved rather than lived in debt on flexible plastic.

But come on redo there is some proper hatred of other peoples views on this board. It's as if your not allowed an opinion and especially one that does not agree with their view. Most of them seem to be held by the left wing of this board.

When everyone else knows that it is [empty], or they wouldn't be arguing the toss from behind a keyboard. Especially over something they have no direct influence in; politics being one example.

I think that's right. Almost 99% of my opinions are correct so I get a little bit irritated when thick headed right wing morons try to pathetically disagree with them.

I would say the majority of people are happy to accept an opinion thor , however we used to believe experts in a field that they may have studied for years .


Imagine if Farage tried to discuss law with a lawyer & he poo poohed the lawyers argument just because ha had an opinion about law.

Plus Politicians were a little more honest all round .

Accusing others of refusing to accept the opinions of others...it’s like you clicked the hypocrisy overload button.

Your constant attempt to play the victim on this board really is odd. The thread has proved my point in so many ways.

Its a shame people are not able to disagree on a topic without resorting to personal insults from the outset. Its made even worse by the fact the personal insults in most cases are about someone you have never met before.

I tend to agree with the o.p. on emotive subjects. I can see many sides to an argument that you need to appreciate. But all too often people will argue things when the facts are against them as they feel they're entitled to their opinion, which for me is bullshit.
