I was at the top of canary wharf tower (my work) on 9/11 when the planes were going in. Obviously canary wharf faces a airport and we knew it was a terrorist attack following the second plane. All the announcements said stay at you’re desk. 90% of people did just that. I got out within 2 minutes. If a plane had gone into canary wharf they would have all been dead. The point is, it’s not just poor people who are stupid for want of a better word. Don’t have a problem with JRM saying it. He should have not presumed he would have left though. In all likelihood he would not have, especially if nanny wasn’t there to carry his bags.
