Really aged, hasn't it. Not just the quality of football, even the kits and the commentary. It's amazing how far we've come since then.

Erm, we were one good season from the top flight and actually made the FA Cup semi that season. Not one current player would get into that team. I think it's more a case of how far we've fallen since then.
As for the comms, Moore for my money by far the best we've had on TV. They actually have training schools now that produce clone commentators. Even at his last World Cup he produced great commentary for Michael Owens goal. Game has changed a bit tbf, but Hoddle would be a top flight player in any era.

I think he was referring to the quality of football generally now vs then. The players are fitter and you are not allowed to tackle anymore so it’s much faster. The pitches are like carpets now. The players are not more skillful though. Chiedozie would rip most current premier league fullbacks a new one as they don’t have the first clue how to defend. His skills on some of those pitches was incredible to watch back then.

I was there as a young lad with my dad and his mates all season ticket holders sitting in the east stand. My grandad and his mates also in the east but at the north stand end.

That was the best team I’ve seen, wearing the best kit we’ve ever had and with the best manager I’ve seen manage us.

Kent if your reading this, you can get those crowds back again, shame Hearn stopped Brisbane road from ever holding 26k fans again. It can be done and I will be there when we get back to where I rightly believe we should be. Also please get Danny to make the braces kit, it’s Orient through and through.

Thanks for posting Andy. A lovely bit of nostalgia. How the O’s could do with a couple of CMs like Paddy Grealish & Les Bennett now!

How wonderful to see Jimmy and Peter in the dugout and Peter and Joe up front working like twins!

(oh, and the Red Braces)

Andy do you know if there's any footage of the Villa game where we needed a Win to get to the top flight in '74?

That was a Friday night match attended by Liverpool who played Newcastle in the FAC Final the following afternoon, I think there may have been newsreel. The man who'd probably know is Neil Irvine

I don't wish to burst that bubble but we only averaged 8400 that season and this particular crowd would have distorted the number upward by about a thousand. Kent ain't doing a bad job with crowds tbf. Let's hope we can find a few more still!

1976 was the 1st year that more colour TV licences were issued than black and white. Hence Brian Moore apologising to the millions still watching in B&W for the clash of colours 😁
