IMO, this is what needs to change
1. Play 442
2. Drop Coulson and Clay
3. Find new fullbacks
4. If there is any tension between the coaching staff, resolve it.
5. Relax and be honest for interviews.
6. Do a podcast

He is still coming in to work today!

Doesn't matter. He's not a big enough or strong enough character to command the changing room and the training pitch.

1. Play 442
433 suits the players he has available. Josh Wright and Dale Gorman can't be trusted in a 2 man midfield and Clay is playing poorly. We have 2 fit strikers and neither of them are good enough. This was also a blind spot for the coaches who were there before Fletcher who wouldn't stop playing 5 at the back.
2. Drop Coulson and Clay
Coulson has been playing with an injury all season, again, the coaching staff wouldn't drop Coulson before.
3. Find new fullbacks
That's Martin Ling's job and he won't do that, especially at RB.
4. If there is any tension between the coaching staff, resolve it.
The coaching staff are there to support Fletcher, not the other way around. They need to get on board with his ideas.
5. Relax and be honest for interviews.
I'm sure this will come with time
6. Do a podcast
Agree with this. I think a lot of the hatred of him has come from him not engaging with the fans, whether it's a podcast or getting on that Os show thing. If he'd have got involved with that stuff, the fans are extremely fickle and would have supported him a bit more.

Agree with most of that.
Mans body language in the dugout is bad, gotta say the rumours of fallings out looks true. Players don't look as if they are playing for him at all, a bit like they didn't for Davis.
Club need to lock them in the Marriott for a week or something, crack some heads together, this can't go on.
I think it'll end up falling one of two ways, either the club back him and allow him his own people around or they get rid and we start 'the process' again.
A couple of decent free transfers who will be on Fletchers side would help, just like Slade got in Coxy and Terrell Forbes.

It would be a shorter thread to ask what he is doing right.

Yeah, I think this is the big thing. He seems a bit of a wet lettuce authority wise, hardly the person that's going to crack down on this and get tough with the squad to bring them round to his ways (which is needed if these rumours of dissent in the ranks are true).

Is being tough the only way to win the squad over?

It’s not just about being ‘tough’.

No way jose as you will annoy plenty of people that want an arm around the shoulder, it's all about balance.
What he needs is a vision, a strategy to lay down with a pathway so the players know, today we are here, tomorrow we end up there. He would have training plans laid out etc. He would communicate how and what he wants and expects, the issue being if he communicates to the players the way he speaks to DD they will be laughing at him behind his back.

If we knew what Fletcher was doing wrong we’d all be millionaires. So to speak.

The interviews- by not going into details on where we went wrong, is he actually just protecting the players? I'm sure he has noticed that Coulson turns like a lorry and Clay couldnt tackle a big dinner.

He certainly doesn't manage football teams like him though.

For me, he needs to analyse why the team plays so abysmally at home. Obviously our luke warm fan base has something to do with this. But for many many years, the team has put in a lot of poor performances at home. If he could turn this around, get the team to put in a shift at home, maybe the fans would get behind more. Ever since I supported Orient, I have always preferred away matches. He should get the team to focus on M&T's performance of 180% on Sunday and get our boys to emulate it. By logic, the Orient team should have better skills than M&T. They need to work on application.

Awful performances at Plymouth and mighty Morecambe suggest away games aren't that good either now - the common theme at present is there's been a change in who picks the team, tactics and general team management.

I've said this across a few threads but I think the squad needs to be broken up and overhauled. Build the squad around the talent we have like Angol, Wilkinson and Happe and go from there. Too many have either been affected by the tragic events of the summer, are loyal to somebody else or are simply not good enough at this level. This season should be about getting shot of those who fall into the three above categories, and replacing them with fresh faces with none of the above baggage.
I love them all intensely, but I think by the start of next season I think we should look to move on the likes of Brill, Coulson, Widdowson, Clay, Harrold ect. a bit like JE did getting shot of those not required when he took over almost exactly 2 years ago.

4. If there is any tension between the coaching staff, resolve it.
As he can't remove staff, this is an impossibility for him to do. The conflicting staff can remain causing problems as manager has been undermined in his ability to manage
5. Relax and be honest for interviews.
6. Do a podcast
5 and 6 are irrelevant. Who would care if he never spoke to media or fans if club won every game.
Kenny Daglish notoriously reticent at speaking to media is still a hero at Liverpool

UpminsterO He should not slam the players in a interview, anything that needs to be said is done within the confines of club walls. Otherwise like you say he would lose them.

People dont need to be sacked to solve a problem (if there even is one) Dialogue is useful.
5&6 arent irrelevant. Helps to get fans on side which helps confidence on a matchday.

Football has changed and there's a large section of this fanbase that think the manager and the players owe them something. You've just got to see all the selfish people who mobbed the players on the pitch so nobody else could see the players lift the trophy to prove that point. Doing a half hour interview with a podcast or turning up to have a drink after a game with the fans will go down well with those types

Considering the players are not playing for him, he must be doing virtually everything wrong to get these types of bad performances in such a short time .

To be fair a significant number of the players aren't good enough.
