DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL

This might have been discussed before, so I'm sorry if that's the case.
Can someone please explain to me what a director of football actually does. Is it really a full time job?
I accept that Martin is probably quite busy at the moment appointing a new manager, but when he's not doing that, how does he fill his day?
There's no coaching or training, the financial and commercial work is carried out by others, scouts are out looking for talent.

Can just imagine it up in their offices:
"Danny, get in 'ere now, look at what that c**t Biggsy has said about Sammy this time!"

As you will see from
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_of_football that's not really very helpful.
I just cannot believe that overseeing others needs to be a full time job.

Lower league clubs normally just have a CEO & manager. We have a very efficient CEO & chief scout.

Its a job for the boys. Porter got him the job. Lower league clubs normally just have a CEO & manager. We have a very efficient CEO & chief scout. If we did not need a manager what would Ling have been doing since the transfer window closed?
Spot on.
what has he done since the transfer window closed , well he has been sifting through over 40 vacancies for the managers job, and believe it or not he has not chosen an experienced proven Manager at League 2 level, well there we have it !!

We have a very efficient CEO now. We didn't back in June 2017.
We also have owners who are abroad most of the time. Ling is their eyes and ears.

You've posted quite well, but you've let yourself down on this one.
