I think the guy regularly underachieves but is a real gem
... has anybody ever seen him hit the ball with his right foot??
Constantly contriving to get it on his left

Some fans are unbelievable. Scores the only goal of the game and a post is created critiquing his technique.

Same criticism is levelled at literally every single left footed player ever.

Took his goal really well. No criticism from me. In fact I thought he had a decent game.

First time he has had an end product in about 2 years. If he can do it on a cold winters night in Morecambe then let’s talk.

In fact I think he has great potential.. I just don’t think he fulfills his potential. His need to constantly use his left leg even when it requires his right simply restricts his scope

Why do people always spout this rubbish about left footed players?

I think the old argument used to be a professional footballer should be able to kick with both feet.

It’s only the left footed players that cop flak for being one footed.

My favourite Orient player. Criminally under used in his best position

You made a good point and yes, players should be constantly looking to be improving on their skills including the ability to be as two footed as possible.

Some good points on this thread & some over critical points. He does have an end product, he does have great pace, he & JMD both need to be more consistent. 1 good game in 3 isn't good enough.

How many right footed players are called one footed, despite the fact that most of them are?

It still doesn't change the fact that Brophy just cannot use his right. We have other left footed players who can, like JMD and Dayton. It's a fair criticism.

U tube Leeds and England old player Norman Hunter I think that will convince you it's just fine to use only one foot, the left foot
Not having a right foot cost Hunter this tackle, look at 3:05 on-wards !!
England did not qualify for the 1974 World Cup after only drawing this match 1-1 with Poland who scored a breakaway goal. England, despite being all over Poland in most of the match, were only able to score just the one goal, a penalty taken by Allan ''Sniffer'' Clarke. Goalkeeper Tomaszewski ( who Brian Clough had previously called a "clown" ) kept England restricted to just the one goal scored through a mixture of bad luck, bad finishing and some very good saves.

No, it’s not.

Brophy is no more one footed than anyone else in the team. Left or right footers.

It would definitely benefit us more to maximise what he gets out of his left foot rather than to want or expect him to improve greatly with his right. Concentrate on working on a strength that there is still a lot of scope to improve rather than a weakness that will probably not improve much.

He is though. I can understand your point about left footed players getting more attention on this point, but Brophy does not have a great weaker foot, especially compared to other players in his position. He is more one footed than all of, from the top of my head, Brill, Widdowson, Ling, JMD, Dayton, Wilkinson, Angol, Harrold. As a wide player, you need to be able to use both feet otherwise you can become easy to defend against. Brophy is fortunate that he is quick enough for this to not always be a problem.

If you think back to the Salford game at home last season, as soon as the defender worked out that all he wanted to do was cut in onto his left, his threat was nullified.

I just thought back to the Salford away game earlier this season and that outstanding pass from Ling to Brophy which ended up with our equaliser - if Lingy had a left foot he would have used that rather than scuff it with the outside of his right.

It's tired old lazy trope that goes back years about left footed players.

Ling was quite happy using his left foot to cross for the 1st goal at Mansfield.

Now that is a fair criticism, rather than all this left-footed discrimination.
