A strange game that. Rather entertaining by the end, perhaps for the wrong reasons at times. As usual Ross' tactics meant we were only at the races for half the game. He doesn't learn does he :?

Brill - 5 - not much chance with any of the goals but doesn't look mobile
Ling - 5 - not great
Ekpiteta - 3 - as poor as he's played this season. Rightly hooked at HT
Happe - 5 - can't score much higher than that when you concede 3 goals
Coulson - 5 - as per Happe
Widdowson - 5 - better second half
Wright - 7 - two vital goals, glad he's here
Marsh - 5 - some good interceptions but had a battle on his hands out there. Probably our best partnership if we play two in CM
Clay - 3 - why is he starting? Game passed him by.
Dennis - 5 - has potential but nullified by the formation
Wilkinson - 6 - seems to be stepping up in Angol's absence. Great goal. Lucky not to be sent off though.

Brophy - 6 - gave Vale something to think about with his pace second half
JMD - 6 - as above, gave enough injection of threat towards the end to keep us going
Harrold - 7 - changed the game and made the ball stick upfront. Proved why he should've been playing ahead of Alabi

Embleton - 2 - same old same old from Ross. Doesn't learn from his previous mistakes. Lucky the players dug out a point once freed from his negative tactics.

Surely Ross deserves an extra point for bringing on Harrold rather than that clown Alabi?

The fact that decision is seen as deserving of credit says a lot about how low we're setting the bar here

JMD should have started but yet again a no go on the bench

Agree with most of that, but 6 for Ling and 4 for Dennis - the worst I've seen him to date. Clay ii particular is finding the step up too much and Gorman must be a better option on evidence this season.

Half the team flat on their back at final whistle so fitness also an issue this season?

Dennis has potential but nullified by the formation. A comment that can be applied to so many.

As for fitness. Seems to have been that way all season. What the feck has gone wrong with the fitness training. No excuse for that.

Fitness definitely not up to scratch, that's one thing the new manager needs to address sharpish.

One of many things. Hope Ling gets a move on.

Ross made a statement starting with five at the back and justified why the decision to give up the management role is the right one. In the first half we were overrun in midfield as we always are when we start with that formation. Ekpiteta has been iffy for a few games, especially at set pieces. He spends all his time ragging at the man he is marking and not concentrating on the incoming ball. I've lost count of the number of times a set piece has bounced off him for this reason. However, without a doubt our worst play in the first half was Ling, nothing going forward and totally absent when they came forward.

But should lose 2 points for having him on the bench !

After we scored the goal I counted a 8-0-2 as our formation. All clustered around edge of the box with a chasm in midfield then two lost attackers upfront.

Hopefully with new manager coming in we won't be seeing that formation for much longer.

Matt Harrold coming on changed the game
Not a great Footballer but he gave their back four something to think about.

A bit ''cliquey'' when it comes to choosing the next Manager.
Wonder if anyone other than Martin Ling has an input as to who the shortlist should be ?

Martin Ling needs to look at his performance in every aspect of his role. Do yourself a favour Martin and tender your resignation now.

''King Harrold'' always gives 100%, good header of the ball as well, Bonne seemed to play better with Harrold alongside him once Matt got fit in the second half of last season.

Wilkinson deserves a 7, a goal and an assist, and generally led the line well. Shouldn't have responded to the provocation from the Vale full back, but that was a penalty (clear tug on his shirt) and having someone scream in your face that you dived can't be the easiest thing to resist.

The show of support for Embleton in the south stand after the game was a nice touch. He neither wanted nor asked for this job. He got it through his boss passing away and the owners asking him to try to handle an incredibly sensitive situation. He's bedded in the new players, has brought in the germ of a good playing style when we're lined up properly and has generally carried himself very well.

I think with a proper manager this squad could actually do quite well at this level, perhaps with a new keeper and left back. Some tough decisions will need to be made with Widdowson, Coulson and Clay. Guess Judd will have to go as well, seeing as Ling has a new deal and we definitely need an upgrade there as well.

A bit too far with that comment. He did get a team together very quickly when we went into the National League and also did well with his second choice manager.

It would have been impossible for Widdowson not to have a better second half given the way he performed in the first! Other than that I pretty much agree with your assessment. One point, anyone else think Wilkinson looks a better player without Angol alongside him?

Not at all. He hasn’t got a strategy for anything - that is clear. His video the other day was an embarrassment TBH.

Time for Teague and co. to stop the amateur hour.

The big mistake made was not making Embleton caretaker manager whilst an experienced, proven manager at this level was actively sought from day one, instead of letting the unproven Ross Embleton and his negative tactics drag us to within 5 points of the bottom club.

It is sometimes a bit too Cliquey for me at Leyton Orient, but do not wish to see the ''Baby thrown out with the bath water''

Bulls-eye !! I think that ML was seeing if RE could make a go of it as the full time Manager before attempting to look for another manager.

It does seem that way. Perhaps he's relishing being the main man, no longer just a head on a stick to facilitate Angol's tricky feet.

Need a quality striker signed in January to create an effective partnership. Harrold did well today but was looking tired by the end. 45 mins is about his limit fitness wise but without doubt lifted the side with his physical presence and hold-up play.
