I see the Portuguese have jailed the old couple 71/72 years of age both for 8 years each for trying to smuggle 1m worth of cocaine in to either Portugal or more likely the UK. They claim to have been paid 2k a suitcase which could be sold in harrods for big money. If that were true surely you would question why you don't DHL it for 60 quid.

They were obviously doing this over a period of time as the uk crime agency tipped off their counterparts in Portugal to nick them. Good job to both police forces. They have been done and served time before for smuggling cannabis, so the old we didn't know what was in the cases won't wash with me.

Liars and am glad they got busted. I hope they serve the full sentence. Scum.

Why obviously? From reading this story, it appears they were duped.

I like to see the good in people. Look, even Tuffers made a mistake. People shouldn’t be hanged for an error of judgement.

I agree dis its good to give people the benefit of doubt and allow them to rejoin and integrate back in to society.

However, those two are starting there second lengthy custodial sentence for drug smuggling. Sorry not interested in scum like that I'm afraid.

Ita not an error of judgement, its greed and destruction of peoples lives.

Seventy is not 'old' it is late middle age.

Life expectancy is 79 for a man and 82 for a women and apparently it’s stopped increasing for the first time since 1982.

So I’d say they are old.

That average is skewed by smokers, drinkers and overeaters, if you are not in these categories you should get another decade at least.

Seems they were surprised and peturbed at the severity of the sentence: 5 years for the bloke, and 3 for her, I think it was.

No doubt it it was the UK, some lobotomy-case sopping wet judge would have effectively let them off; and Portuguese prisons are allegedly very tough.
Hardly surprising they played the no comprendi line, but as they have distinct form in this area the were no doubt in full possession of their faculties.

Whilst many just see it as "a bit of sniff"; the fallout from taking cocaine can be catastrophic: I know a girl who went from a family, with a good job, beautiful detached house etc.etc., all the way down to sleeping on the streets, via a £300 a day habit. "Her own fault", many would think, but it's a powerful drug, and if the supply is cut of at source (as in this case) it wouldn't have happened to her.

It wrecks lives; not that these two old duffers care, but it does. I hope they enjoy their holiday.
