Ed Waldron would be my choice for director of football

The more I think about things... i quite like the players Oxford have signed recently with connections to Orient and Wellens. We all know how good Currie, Donley, El Miz have been for the Os before moving to Oxford (or returning back there). That is why I could imagine a young new sports director like Ed Waldron moving to London and taking on this new project following Oxford being relegated. Out of all the names I have seen linked... Waldron would be the best appointment for me to work with Wellens. Maybe I am far off the mark but as I say, the more I think about it, it starts to make some kind of sense in my mind.

While I agree re: Oxford's transfer business/talent-spotting, I think you need someone with more experience of more aspects of the business to be a Director of Football - it's not all about transfers.

I think the size of our club and the project ahead to strengthen our squad.... Waldron seems to like the kind of player that could peak under Wellens. I think his role at Oxford would suggest he is more than ready to take on this role at Orient. He is still young in age but he can continue to increase his experience with us if he were to join. His role in a league above last season with Oxford would hopefully mean he would have a good list of players ready to help Leyton Orient.

Good to see the club putting out feelers to the board before offering him the job.
Oxford seem to have overachieved and are similar size to us so why not eh?

He did a great job spending a lot of money to get relegated back to league 1

El Miz and Donley were unmitigated failures there.
Currie can't get in the team.
They got relegated.
Sounds ideal.

I still am convinced we will be getting someone like him.... everything just seems to add up. I do not think there is anyone else who would come to us this summer....

Some guy on FB saying it’s the guy from Oxford
Who knows how much faith to place in that?
No smoke without fire?

Ed seems keen on data driven recruitment
Will need to add a few data points to the model like
‘How many days injury have they had in the last season’
‘Are they comfortable laying down’
‘Can they ignore completely the managers instructions’
Welcome to the club Ed
Understand he’s bringing Jamie with him
And has suggestions re our new manager.

As I felt few days back.... everything seems to make sense with this type of young Director of Football. The links to previous O's players and Oxford having been relegated making him probably more available. Perhaps I was right.... Facebook is also mentioning this...

The club is really leakier than a sieve...
This guy is really young and very inexperienced compared to Lingy. Not entirely convinced.
If he can bring McDonnell across with him, that might help ingratiate himself.

Richie is a proper old school football person.
I can't see him having much truck with some kid with a laptop who has never kicked a ball in his life...

Currie was loaned out for the whole first season, didn't play for them once. He did manage 30 games last season during their relegation campaign.
El Miz was great for us, they bought him from Ipswich, he wasn't great for them so they off loaded him after a season, presumably at a loss.

Isn’t the point that he identified three players that we know are good and that we rate?

Be good to have someone young and up to date with all the current thinking and tools rather than a dinosaur. Richie will be involved too.
Podcast ep with him on if anyone’s interested

Well, it's quite possible that "some guy on FB" has seen this thread, or heard the name through idle chit-chat, and being bored / seeking attention has decided to do some engagement farming. This is quite common at this time of year and used to be known as a "the circle of poo poo"... rumours are often like snakes that eat their own tails, or upside-down pyramids with loads of fuss all built on a tiny bit of specious speculation. Especially at this time of year.
That said, welcome Ed!

Indeed, which makes all the media team cryptic nonsense even more pointless when it comes to signings etc.

Loaned out to get experience and then playing in the Championship.
El Miz not really given much of a chance.
