I saw Tower Hamlets play earlier this season. A mix of our kids and reserve players should be enough to beat them. Their squad has an average age of about 23.

Thought we could decline to enter this... I don't think it's of any interest.
Essex Senior League is quite a way worse than sides like Haringey/Welling that we saw in previous years.
I'd play the youth team plus Alabi as a last chance for him. If Alabi cannot put in a good performance against these guys that should be it for him. We took him off the list as he wouldn't move but I'd just pay him off like we did to people like Elokobi/Mooney.
Looking at Ruel Sotiriou's goal for Cyprus it is about time that he got chances on the bench ahead of Alabi. Get him in as fourth choice striker for the moment and either sign some real competition either as a free agent on loan/transfer in Jan.

Glad we're back in this. Other League sides are supporting it, another bit of decent game time for our stiffs and kids.

That's the first time I've heard that. How do you know that's what happened?
For what its worth I can't blame him. He's a full time professional with us where as he must know that when he does leave its going to be to somewhere like Maldon & Tiptree where he'll be stacking shelves as a day job.

Useful exercise for the reserves and youth but none of our first team should be anywhere near it.

It's a cup competition. You can't choose your opponent. You just have to beat what's put been put in front of you & move on to the next round.
I'm sure it's looked on by the club as chance to give game time to younger pros & fringe players.

Sure, a chance for players to get run outs in competitive football. The teams playing us will raise their game so our players will gain from the experience. Better that than a game on the training ground.

I am also of the mind that he received offers but chose to stay. No idea where from, that's the problem with the way information is propagated by the club these days.

I remember in the 60s and 70s, going to watch the Os reserve side that played in the ..''The Football Combination was a football competition for the reserve teams of English Football League clubs from Southern England, the Midlands and Wales; other clubs from the Midlands and those from the North playing in the Central League (it is not to be confused with the Combination, a league for teams from North West England which existed at the turn of the 20th century.''
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Football_Combination
I am not sure of all the reasons as to why this league for the football league reserve teams was discontinued. It was good though, gave the reserves a chance of regular competitive football matches. I used to like watching it and looking out for the up and coming talent for the future. Two young players who I used to like watching play in the reserves were Terry Brisley and Harry Gregory, both of whom made it to the first team.

Why should the club publish any information about an employee at all. For us itβs our pastime, our passion. For the players itβs their livelihood, how they pay their bills and feed their families. None of our business. They provide a lot of information but some things are private.

More like the club has made comment but on some random unofficial podcast / radio show rather than the official website or social media. It's a rather odd way to publish club content and amazed they haven't started to reign it in and centralise that content alongside the Orient TV subscription etc.

Yes I also recall something about ''The Midweek League'' that the reserves played in but when I googled it , I could not find anything about it ? Perhaps it was another name for the ''The Football Combination'' ? Anyway, a league for the reserve players was a good idea, how else can players improve, gain confidence and match fitness if they are not playing in regular competitive games ? A league for the reserve teams is an idea that needs exploring and if possible, resurrecting in some way even if Premier and Championship teams do not wish to take part. With creative thinking, surely there must be some way to make a league for the reserve players to compete in ?

Found this and it sounds about right from what I remember
The London Mid-Week League you have in mind was formed for 1966-67 by nine refugees from the Football Combination Division 2. The main drivers were reduced travelling and the increasing difficulties of fielding two (or more) teams on a Saturday. Founder members were Aldershot, Charlton, Colchester, Leyton Orient, Luton, Millwall, QPR, Southend and Watford. For the first season each played the other four times to give 32 fixtures.
The London part of the title was dropped from 1971-72 by which time the membership was Aldershot, Brighton, Cambridge United, Charlton, Colchester, (Leyton) Orient, Luton, Millwall, Northampton, Peterborough, Southend and Watford.

I found this on The Football Combination and part of it below refers to a midweek section. Whatever, a league for reserve team players would be a good idea. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Football_Combination
''The Football Combination was a football competition for the reserve teams of English Football League clubs from Southern England, the Midlands and Wales; other clubs from the Midlands and those from the North playing in the Central League (it is not to be confused with the Combination, a league for teams from North West England which existed at the turn of the 20th century).
''Promotion and relegation returned for 1958/59 in two Divisions, based on the level of the first team of each club in the Football League, i.e. the top two Divisions of the Football League played in Division 1 of the Combination, and Division 3 and 4 teams were placed in Division 2. In 1961/62 things changed again and the Combination was re-organised into a Saturday Section and a Midweek Section, with a play-off for the title.
For 1963/64 the Combination reverted to Divisions 1 and 2, with the Saturday Section becoming Division 1 and the Midweek Section becoming Division 2, and promotion/relegation was reintroduced. The decline in numbers led to the reintroduction of the Combination Cup in 1966/67, and by 1968/69 the Combination was down to one Division of 26 teams.''
