The UK - last step on the road to dictatorship

Post by EH16 »

And there we have it . An unelected PM openly stating he'll defy the law. Once you defy one law it's very easy to start picking and choosing and making the law whatever you say it is.

" Boris Johnson has said he "will not" carry out Parliament's instructions to seek an Article 50 extension if he fails to negotiate a new deal, according to The Daily Telegraph"

Just watched " dateline London " on BBC News Channel, always worth a watch. ( 4 foreign correspondents in UK discuss weeks events ). Consensus is that we are the laughing stock of the World, more so as Boris is seen as a known liar. The French journalist was almost jumping up & down with glee ( although is always a miserable bugger ). The French see a situation with Merkel on the wane, as them being the main influence in Europe. The want us out, because they are more scared of us in the EU. Brexit will emasculate the UK.

The way that the MPs of all parties have dealt with Brexit since the referendum is killing democracy in this country.

I can't see myself voting again given the respect that they shown the electorate.

It's the new "spin" of late that all our Brexit woes are down to the behaviour of MP's whereas the blame really lies squarely on the shoulders of the Conservative Party and this government. That the Tories are to blame is the view of many, including many Tory MP's.

You believe that. I'll stick to my opinion.

Brexit, IMO, is a bigger issue than party politics and all parties should have worked together to get the best deal for the country. Not spend years arguing, plotting and sabotaging to stop it happening for their own reasons.

The EU don't have to negotiate with us as Parliament Is full of self serving, incompetent tossers who don't know how to stand up for this country.

But he does want an election. If a dictatorship then surely he would not have offered it.

As for the rest, well they are now in charge. There leader asked to go to the sweetie shop 50 times at least this year and when offered turned down. Only to say that he will decide when he wants to go to the sweet shop.

If this was the uk version of west wing you would say it is too far fetched. I am just looking forward to this crop of kids to find out just how poor they have been at their job.

It’s a disgrace that well over three years since we voted to leave the EU that we are still in it. Two wrongs don’t make a right of course, but once parliament takes a step down that road of ignoring the will of the people, then it becomes more tempting for others to do something which is basically wrong too.

I’m sick to death of hearing that people didn’t vote for this or that, as an MP seeks to put their own particular interpretation of what ‘leave’ meant to suit their own views on how it should be. But clearly what we didn’t vote for was to remain, yet that is what continues to happen.

I’ve never voted Tory in my life, but I will do so in this forthcoming election if they are the only party standing in my constituency who tell me that they will obey the result of the referendum.

Can only assume that Boris and pals have hedged a lot of money on us leaving in October and the pound plunging. He might have a few enemies if that doesn’t happen.

A fair point. Is Boris breaking the law or respecting the voters? Either way the guy is not my taste in politician. Learning the hard way.

I get that you've had enough of Brexit, I really do, but why would you trust the Tories to deliver on any promise they make. They've done nothing but break their promises for years now.

This. Whichever side of the argument you sit on the demeanour of MPs over the past few years has been shameful. An embarrassment really.

I knew somebody would bring up this nonsense again. The leave voters aren't being ignored at all. We are leaving, the debate is about how we do so. No one has suggested ignoring the leave vote UNLESS the voters vote again to over turn it. THAT is democratic. Ignoring laws you don't like ISN'T.

It’s a disgrace that well over three years since we voted to leave the EU that we are still in it - Have you still not grasped it's more complicated than what was sold to you as an easy deal?

parliament takes a step down that road of ignoring the will of the people _ They're not. The debate is around HOW we leave not IF (unless a new vote supercedes the original referendum). The will of the people was to leave, there was no vote on the terms of our leaving.
