Yes been there so many times when Johanna Konte, plays really well in the early rounds of big tennis competitions, then when she gets to the last stages, e.g the quarter finals or semi finals .....then all her earlier good form goes out of the window as nerves set in !!
Hope for her that this is a different story this time around, we shall see .....

So Jo Konta is a British Citizen although not born in the UK. On the other hand, would you question the the right of the many other people who happen to live in the UK,have British passports, were NOT born in the UK but have earned the right to call themselves British Citizens, of course not ! From the earliest times in history, people the world over have migrated from one continent to another, often settling in places thousands of miles from where their earliest ancestors first existed. America in particular, is populated with people who originate from countries from all over the world.

I think you say that about Jo Konta just because she is a highly paid sports woman, albeit one who never seems to win ( not yet anyway ! ) a major competition !

It is born out of self-gain, not out of love or respect for our country and its traditions.

The same also applies for the many people who come to uk from poorer countries.
People move around the world to better themselves, been the same since the earliest times.

Sport is littered with people who take a flag of convenience, to earn big money, then they dissapear for good. Its not only in this country too, but remember Zola Budd, who couldnt run for south Africa because of apartheid, so she took Britain as her flag of convenience, and all the media called her British, because we had no one else anywhere near as good, then it all went and she disappeared.

Remember Joe Bugner, another one who left Britain after the career went, but was 'British' while he was making big money. I could go on and on, but you get the picture

I think they "take a flag of convenience" because of the opportunities it presents. Didn't Budd run in an Olympics game but wouldn't have done had she remained affiliated with SA? Money isn't necessarily always a byproduct of this "flag of convenience" either.

How long til Senior Sid comes back to have another pop at Konta?

I know plenty of Brits , English Scottish & Welsh
Who actually hate all that stuff about traditions.

I never knew " British" was a love for 1 country either
