Never heard that allegation made. As all sentencingfor imprisonable CRIMINAL offences ex has to be in public, it's unlikely someone could be jailed & it be hushed up that way.

[ I specify Criminal as it's possible to be jailed in family proceedings for contempt of court and names not reported, but that is a whole different ball game]

Other names to add to the list are:

Jan Molby

Adam Johnston

Ian Wright ( apparently. Can't remember him getting 14 days https://www.itv.com/goodmorningbritain/ ... ent-person )

Peter Swan - in footballing terms perhaps the most significant one

Joey Barton

Mickey Thomas- passing forged currency

George Best

Rene Higuita - remember him?The Cumbian keeper with the unorthodox Scorpion save trip? He apparently was jailed over a kidnapping I cident

The above is not meant to be an exhaustive list and the last 2 had retired before they were jailed

*Ched Evan's was of course acquitted on appeal of the offence(s) he was originally jailed for

Freed on unconditional bail pending the hearing of his appeal against sentence.

Reading the media reports of the sentencing hearing, several things came to mind.( Bear in mind, I wasn't present & therefore dont know all the facts)

1. Sentence seems on face of it to be harsh when considering the sentencing guidelines. Normally custody isn't given for this offence.

2. The District Judge did see body worn camera of the evidence. That may have (properly) influenced his sentencing.

3. Some reports suggested Saunders didn't turn up at court on Tuesday & sent a letter pleading guilty (on day of listing for trial). This is not an offence you can plead guilty to in writing.

4. The Judge according to some reports seemed irritated by Saunders and called him arrogant

Items 1,2 & 4 may well provide basis of the appeal against sentence.

The appeal is I understand listed for October it may well be he receives a non custodial sentence . The appellate judge may take the view that the 1 night in prison provided enough of a shock to Saunders that he can give him a Community Sentence

He may also agree with Judge #1 that Saunders was a complete and utter tosspot and send him back to jail to complete his sentence.

Let’s hope so.

Also Steve Castle and Wayne Burnett both narrowly missed custodial sentences, I believe.

He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison, but served only 16 months of his term.

As I suggested earlier, he won his appeal against the custodial sentence. Probably correctly according to the Sentencing guidelines, but sadly does nothing to improve road safety
