Last nights ref

Absolute homer. The amount of pushes and pulls that he let them get away with, only to blow up for us, was ridiculous. There was definitely an attempt to undo the wrong of the previous game.
But I’ve just watched the highlights back and seen the foul by Moxon on Clare. Holy f*ck. The fact a foul is in the Sky Sports highlights package tells you everything. Did he even speak to the guy after it?

Not just the fouls he was letting go for Stockport but towards the end he started booking Orient players for fun.
I have absolutely no sympathy for Stockport as they had a ref helping them out all game, two golden chances (one at the end of normal time and one extra time) which they both fluffed and even got to take the pens up the end which favoured them. They had ample chance to win this tie and they didn’t.

Not even mentioned the pisstaking he let go with throwins.

According to Richie Wellens the police requested that penalties should be taken from the Cheadle Road end prior to the match. So you can’t blame the ref for that. Also I saw at least two occasions where we might have conceded penalties last night that were allowed to pass unpunished.
The Moxon challenge was a bad decision though - especially as it happened just after a soft yellow given to Donley.

Can't fault a ref who awards you five penalties in one game.

Donely got a yellow about 5 mins before that where he won the ball. It’s close but Moxons challenge was verging on a red and he didn’t even get a talking to.
A couple of infuriating free kicks given for them when Beckles and Clare breathed on their player

Who has blamed the ref for the end the penalties were taken at?
What were these penalty decisions?
That foul by Moxon was horrific and a red all day long. He absolutely meant it too, it was out of frustration as we were bossing the midfield at that point. In true Stockport County style, I’m going to bleat on about that incessantly.

To be fair, although funny the first time, I don’t think the Offside Again Ole Ole chant did us any favours. Just served as a reminder of what had happened to the officials.

Some terrible decisions across both ties - and some big ones going for and against each side - but there seemed to be some kind of cheat code activated which meant Stockport players were immune from yellow cards for the whole 210 minutes. Think their left back, who was hooked at HT, was the only one? Ludicrous.

Ref was a bit of a homer, but it was a horrible game to ref. Both sides went toe to toe physically and in letting the wrestling go on he blurred the lines of what was and was not a foul.

Disagree. He was sh*t.

There was a handball in our penalty area and the incident with Beckles wrestling bloke over might have gone against us (albeit harshly).

It was a very competitive and great game to watch. The ref let it flow as much as possible by ignoring a lot of pushing and shoving that normally gets penalised.
Most refs would try and halt the wrestling matches at corners by awarding the defending team a free kick once it started. He chose to speak to one or two every now and then which didn't tackle the problem.

Balances out the offside goal from the first leg. Less egregious as a mistake but a more consequential one.
If Beckles had the penalty given against him, then most of Stockport's corners would've got an immediate foul. The wrestling going on was ridiculous.

Not sure giving the defending teams free kicks will stop them offending, probably the opposite. Giving penalties would sort it. Needs to be blatant and not mutual. Even then they ignore it.

Agree. What made that decision worse was he booked Donley just two minutes earlier for a much lesser foul.

By them, yes. By us, not so much.

Thought the referee was awful last night, the "tackle" on Clare by Moxon was disgraceful.
Mind you Beckles and co will have to cut out the wrestling at corners in the final - VAR is in operation. I know all teams do it but with our luck we will get pinged for it.

The pushing, pulling, blocking off, throwing players to the ground etc at corner kicks has just gotten ridiculous at all levels of the game. Impossible to referee really. I seriously think something radical needs to be done. Maybe limiting the amount of players allowed in the box when the kick is taken so refs can actually see who is doing what. They've mucked about plenty with rules in recent years, so don't see why they shouldn't try to sort this out

It amazes me they get away with it. Relatively new thing. I don’t recall seeing this four or five years ago. Blatant holding of shirts. It’s a penalty but they don’t get given

Disagree. Give a penalty. It will stop in a fortnight.

I don’t see how you can claim to be defending when you’re not even watching the ball. Rules are there. Enforce them. Just weak refereeing.

You imply that is only the defending team who are guilty of all the nonsense that goes on at a corner but the attacking team are often just as bad

Exactly this.
There was a drive to allow a bit more physicality after a tournament a few years back, can't remember which one, and I don't disagree with that. But the wrestling and holding should result in free kicks. Refs just need to man up and give fouls at every corner - be that a penalty or not - and it will stop instantly.
