Should thst be the case then the EFL need to follow through on their last statement and suspend Reading.

The consequences if they don't is that us or indeed Blackpool could miss out, Reading go on to win the Play Offs only for the EFL to end up having to expel the club and the whole thing becomes a mockery.

Quite straightforward imo. Deal doesn’t complete today, then suspend and give the club the summer to sort. Final threat of expulsion if ownership not sorted by start of new season.

What are the sanctions provided in the EFL rules relating to situations like this. I'm hoping there's scope to deduct at least 7 points.

Going by the statements the EFL have put out, we are at the point of either suspending Reading to allow more time for the takeover to happen or just kick them out of the league. The latter should it happen before the end of the season could mean result expunged.

Well that would blow a hole in us because we've beaten them home and away this season .Whatever happens , with only two games to play they have got play them . If they finish sixth and still hit the buffers their place should go to the seventh placed team .

Don’t think it would really affect us. Would lose points but so do Bolton and Huddersfield, if anything it would get us closer to playoffs.

We are so close to the end of the season it must be finished. Reading haven't gained an advantage with their current situation, in fact it must have been a hinderance. Keep going and if Reading get in and win the play-offs, the losing finalists can take there place if they are kicked out.

Would be crazy to allow any team to compete in the playoffs with sanctions pending. There is no need to expel them at this point but should they not comply with the extension already granted, they should be suspended (as notified). If that’s the case then 3 points should be awarded to their remaining opponents. A points reduction seems quite arbitrary as this was not mentioned in the last extension, however, may be a pragmatic solution for the EFL. Hopefully all will be transparent tomorrow.

From what I read that should be possible. The EFL have discretion on what sanctions can be applied.

I suspect they will extend the deadline, let them play the last two games to preserve the integrity of the league and if they have not been sold after that suspend their league membership which would mean they could not take part in the play offs. If they are Team 6 then Team 7 gets their slot.

However, I wouldn't worry too much as we will be Team 6.

EFL will fudge as usual until the season ends and then give Reading a points deduction (whatever league they are in) that will seriously hamper their efforts to avoid relegation. No way will the EFL kick them out before the end of the season. That's my opinion for whatever it is worth.

I can only see sanctions next season.

The best for us would be to freeze their points ie their two remaining games’ points are awarded to the opposing teams.

Ergo: we say sixth barring a complete disaster.

Not exactly a great buy if they will receive sanctions next year. Can’t see how that will progress matters.

The prospective buyer is paying their outgoings until the deal completes, so it sounds pretty reasonable. I'll save the outrage until the deal falls through and the points deduction is deferred until next season.
