Burnley promoted
So, who on this forum were present when the Os could have consigned B to non-league?

Re: Burnley promoted
Yup, missing out on the play offs was far more frustrating than worrying what happened to Burnley

Re: Burnley promoted
I also.
Crazy atmosphere and the passion created by the Burnley fans was something on a level I can’t recall seeing since.
Proper club.
During the dark days of Beelzebub, I joined a couple of their forums with a begging bowl, and many Clarets fans came forward not only to contribute in a monetary sense but also express their affection for The O’s.

I felt we played the occasion and bottled it a bit.Bandy Legs wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 7:56 pm Yup, missing out on the play offs was far more frustrating than worrying what happened to Burnley
I was just 17 though so can’t be sure.
What did you think BL?

Huge crowd & supposed warnings probably scared a few players, but once the game started, we bottled it.

Re: Burnley promoted
I think we were overwhelmed by the occasion. It was a sell out and the start was delayed by 15 minutes cos of the crowd. We went 2-0 down quite early on, but when we got one back the place went silent. I don’t recall a lot about the game tbh but at the end all the Burnley fans got on the pitch and went to end where we were alongside in the corner. They were applauding their players in the stand and we joined in, as no-one really wanted to see them relegated. They saw us applauding and next thing the whole crowd turns towards us and applauds us too. It was all pretty special, the plod opened the gates and the Burnley fans and us mingled and hugged each other without a hint of trouble, which wouldn’t have been the case if we’d won…

Was just a kid but still remember seeing the final whistle on the news that evening - back when Orient were never on tv - because Burnley staying up was such a big event.

Not me, we were living overseas at the time, but I remember listening to the match on the radio.Orient_Man_And_Boy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 7:30 pm So, who on this forum were present when the Os could have consigned B to non-league?

Old Bill got on the supporters coaches prior, and made it clear they could not guarantee anyone's safety if Orient won and Burnley went down........Stowaway wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 8:18 pm I think we were overwhelmed by the occasion. Yep, me and my son were there, very intimidating in a pub near ground. Inside the ground l felt we would be killed if Burnley were relegated. With them winning 2-1 everything turned out hunky-dory.

Re: Burnley promoted
Never experienced an atmosphere quite like it, something like 18,000 were there.
It was pointed out if they were there every match then Burnley wouldn’t have needed to win their last match to stay up.
I think we needed certain results to go for us to get in the play offs, a win in itself was no guarantee and I think we wouldn’t have got in the play offs anyway as, apart from losing, results didn’t go our way.
Met some Burnley friend on way out who invited us into the neighbouring cricket club house for post match drinks.Everyone was very friendly! Think they would have killed is if we’d won though!

We finished 7th that year. A win on the day would've put us 5th.PKM wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 11:22 am Never experienced an atmosphere quite like it, something like 18,000 were there.
