Going to America
I have started to hear friends of my kids at Uni cancelling trips to the US. Also US nationals studying here looking to stay after graduation.

Re: Going to America
Going to the Big Apple in December. It'll be interesting to watch the US News and see how whatever is going on at that time is portrayed.

Re: Going to America
Given that his mob have had access to more data on the US population than any other administration, Musk's DOGE crew have helped enormously here, then Trump is in a strong position to target anyone he wants. I'm sure he could think up a good reason to expel/imprison anyone who opposes him. With the Supreme Court in his back-pocket (unless one or more grow a pair) then who can stop him?

Re: Going to America
Missus and me were going to visit NY, decided against it with all the anti foreigner rhetoric being stirred up,
No problem, plenty of other places we want to see that welcome visitors.

Re: Going to America
Play the World Cup elsewhere, can't see them letting fans of some countries visit.
Leave them with Robocop Football where they can be World Champions because nobody else is involved.
Their league is no better, sponsored by SAGA, just a footballing knacker yard.

Yeah, the orange baboon has certainly morphed into a dictator. I can't believe the way he blames Zelensky for starting the hideous war in Ukraine just to sidle up to the Russian dictator.

Usually go to the USA at least once a year. Has given me a good excuse not to miss any Championship footy next season.

Don't go, President Chump is a disaster ( also, remember in the 1930's people laughed at Hitler, thinking he was a tw*t ).

Re: Going to America
Went to NY three years ago with my wife. Very expensive, USD7 for a coffee even then and USD15 for McDonalds burger, god knows what it is now. Times Square was filthy and full of weirdos and beggars hassling tourists, doubt we’ll ever return.one o in huntingdon wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 7:08 pm Missus and me were going to visit NY, decided against it with all the anti foreigner rhetoric being stirred up,

I wouldn't go to a country that can disappear you with absolutely no comeback. US at the moment is up there with Russia, North Korea, Iran, etc as corrupt dictatorships

Re: Going to America
Likewise. But have zero faith in Americans police not making it quite unpleasant. Having thousands of drunk, rowdy foreign types seems ripe for some heavy handed 'crowd management.' not to mention how out of control their border control seems to be at the moment. Not worth it.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 7:40 pm Have a half arsed plan to go over next summer for the World Cup but really going off the idea more and more.
All in for the Canadian and Mexican games on the other hand. Hasn't been a world cup that's been appealing to me since 2006 so it'd be silly not to.

Re: Going to America
Canada only has two cities (Toronto and Vancouver) and Mexico has three (Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City). That's some serious travelling distance between venues to consider (although, you could couple Seattle with Vancouver)..
At least Boston, New York and Philadelphia are relatively close to each other. Is the US police and border control really that nuts at the moment? Obviously I've read the odd article, but wasn't sure if that was a fair representation of things right now.

Re: Going to America
Can't say that border control is any worse than it used to be to be honest so perhaps an overstatement, but having expired student visa from over a decade ago has led to me being held 5 times, once for over 2 hours. Just not worth the risk for me in case they've managed to become even more unpleasant in the current climate (which there is anecdotal evidence out there that they have).
On a point of principle, they are telling the world to go f*ck itself. Doesn't make for a particularly welcoming backdrop for an international football tournament.

The rest of the world should return the compliment and hold the World Cup and Olympics elsewhereMistadobalina wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 1:53 pm Can't say that border control is any worse than it used to be to be honest so perhaps an overstatement, but having expired student visa from over a decade ago has led to me being held 5 times, once for over 2 hours. Re: Going to America
The woman referenced in this video (Rebecca Burke) was actually denied entry to Canada by Canadian customs having tried to enter from the US. She was arrested by US officials after being told to go back to the US to fill in the correct paperwork.
Should we be worried about travelling to Canada too? That would really mess up World Cup plans, especially once Trump starts sending in the drones against Mexican drugs cartels.

Montreal has a population 1.1 million bigger than Vancouver. You dure there are only 2 cities in Canada?Dunners wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 11:11 am Canada only has two cities (Toronto and Vancouver) and Mexico has three (Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City).
