Do we struggle with them more than other clubs?

Sorry, this answer has a level of analysis and depth that’s prohibited on this thread.gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 12:46 pm I think we suffer with injured players more than other clubs due to our recruitment policy. There's been a repeating pattern of signing players with poor injury records on the hope of getting a bargain, though it ends up a false economy much of the time in terms of cost per minutes played and needing to get additional loanees in to cover the inevitable injury breakdown.
Big opportunity to go down a different route in summer.
Wrexham lost Mullins to a collapsed lung he never recovered from by his current form. Elliot Lee & his car crash. Numerous injuries in their squad, covered by a Huge Squad, Charlton had half a squad missing up until christmas. Stockport have had 2 tereible seasons with injuries yet won a League & are comfortably in a play off place . Bolton had players injured & useless under the old manager, Huddersfield have had half a dozen plus out since november, Blackpool only getting starting forwards fit after 2 months out . Exeter have had no fit defendees since god knows when, same at Mansfield who lost half a squad when they were sitting in the play offs.gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 12:46 pm I think we suffer with injured players more than other clubs due to our recruitment policy. We are no worse than any club regards injury, promise
Totally agree, no more recruiting bargain basement sick notes definitely a false economy that has cost us play off places for two years now.gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 12:46 pm I think we suffer with injured players more than other clubs due to our recruitment policy. Nonsense,Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 9:33 am There is no way anyone following Orient knows enough about the injury situations at other clubs to have a definitive answer on this, not that it'll stop anyone.
I don't think we've had particularly bad luck with injuries this season. We haven't had many instances of having players completely out of position, which is normally the tell tale sign that you've got a lot crocked.
I imagine the way Wellens plays is more demanding than a lot of managers so probably increases the chances of picking up muscle injuries.
I don't remember Slade using that method to recruit his 13-14 squad, it's a strategy that came in during the DoF time.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 7:29 am All well and good saying it’s a false economy but the reality is that we have a budget. You take a risk on better quality players that have had injuries or you sign lower quality players. Sometimes it pays off sometimes it doesn’t. But the second option never pays off
Ling always liked a talented crock, way back in his time as Manager. Phil Mulryne being the ultimate - great track record, totally finished by the time we brought him in. Slowcrock was another, and Boyd. I could go on, but I've work to do.gshaw wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 6:10 pmI don't remember Slade using that method to recruit his 13-14 squad, it's a strategy that came in during the DoF time.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 7:29 am All well and good saying it’s a false economy but the reality is that we have a budget. Of the various injury-prone signings I can only think of Smyth who you'd called successful and even then it was half a season of output from 2 years of contract (or "loan" if we use his words)
Ball, Graham, DJ, ClareMistadobalina wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 1:40 pm Lisbie definitely had a track record of getting injured a lot. Mooney as well.
Of the current squad, is it not only really Ball and Graham (sort of - he'd played a few full seasons without a problem) that came to us with issues? Happe and James have become injury prone, Archibald was incredibly fit until he wasn't. No idea if Simpson had a problem with fitness, we got him because of the verbal injuries he was handing out.
With the budget that teams have like Birmingham have we cannot in any way compete. With their money they buy players at the beginning of the transfer window leaving scraps for the rest. Some of the fees they and others have paid are well over the value of the player. Things might change a little next season with the likely teams coming down and coming up.Hopefully with new investment and Richie staying we could achieve play offs.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 10:30 pmImpressive research BandO.Bandy Legs wrote: ↑Wed Apr 02, 2025 6:28 pmWrexham lost Mullins to a collapsed lung he never recovered from by his current form. To win a League you need 25 first teamers and four decent youth fillers and two decent keepers..
Check out Birminghams squad.
