Play Offs are Gone
Just be realistic. IMO we are not good enough. No good saying if we win a certain amount of matches & others slip up. They won't slip up. They are better teams. Start to build & plan for next season

Re: Play Offs are Gone
The team we put out last night attempting to play our normal style of football is not good enough, clearly.
Our first choice team playing our normal style of football is good enough.
The team we put out last night playing a different, more direct way would also be good enough. I guess the problem is playing Sat Tues Sat means there is no time to work on anything different on the training ground.

Re: Play Offs are Gone
Although still doable it's now a big ask . I just can't see the teams above us slipping up . I think they all picked up points last night while we lost .However I would've taken 9th place last November when we were 4th from bottom so I can't complain . The clubs above us all have bigger budgets and stronger squads so we've done well to flirt with the play offs . Saying that , we must try and win as many games as possible and see what happens . There is always that slight hope that a team above us might stumble .

Re: Play Offs are Gone
This “teams above us won’t slip up” thing is complete nonsense. Huddersfield have lost 3 of the last 4 and Stockport have 2 wins out of 5.
If we get back on a run we will probably make the play offs. It’s down to whether we can find our form again.
We are trying to finish sixth. Teams that finish sixth don’t win all the time.

Re: Play Offs are Gone
Without listing them all, a lot of the current top 6/7 have got to play each other. Five of Stockport's remaining games are against sides in the play off places (& Bolton) and both Charlton and Huddersfield have some big ones too. If we can pick up again starting Saturday there's no reason we can't nab a spot

I’m sick of this fanbase. So f*cking reactive to every result without any sense of perspective.

And we are back to Saturday games for a bit so more time to get stuff sorted on the training ground, let some others play 3 times a week for a bit and see how that goes

We get a lot of posters who basically wait for things to start going wrong before they pop up - half of which are surely just wind up accounts (PoundhillO uses the exact same wording every single time). Safe to say most fans absolutely love Wellens and appreciate what he's achieving with us.

Re: Play Offs are Gone
I think it is frustrating we've lost to every team around us bar Wrexham, these were the games we neeed to step up, at least get a draw but lost all of them and all from set pieces too! We haven't scored from open play in three games too bar a Brown wonderstrike

Re: Play Offs are Gone
And do you think there might be any reasons as to why 1) we are failing to score as many goals from open play with our expansive, progressive brand of football and 2) our hitherto watertight defence is now susceptible to set pieces?

Re: Play Offs are Gone
But this is the point I've been making . Our watertight defence hasn't even been on the pitch these past four games . They are either suspended or injured .Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 11:59 am And do you think there might be any reasons as to why 1) we are failing to score as many goals from open play with our expansive, progressive brand of football and 2) our hitherto watertight defence is now susceptible to set pieces?

In one. I thought we played some attractive, incisive football last night.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Wed Mar 05, 2025 10:42 am Safe to say most fans absolutely love Wellens and appreciate what he's achieving with us.
Just lacked that cutting edge; obviously we miss key defenders and are vulnerable at corners at the moment.
We still have something to play for league-wise.

No room for balance - we're either amazing or rubbish.

Re: Play Offs are Gone
We have given points away against Bolton and Charlton, last night we probably didn’t deserve to win, however, I still think we’ll make the playoffs. Then who knows - we are still a good team.

Our first choice 11 is definitely good enough but I think we’ve been very unlucky with injuries

Re: Play Offs are Gone
We've got to start gaining points again, obviously and mostly wins. But the last 4 defeats have left us needing the teams above us to lose or lose form. Huddersfield and Wycombe aren't playing us until the very end of the season, and we've played the rest twice so, we have no influence over their future results. Play offs are not out of the question - it's still in our hands and the hands of our opponents.

Re: Play Offs are Gone
If we don’t make the play offs a more interesting question is what happens next season?
Kelman, Donley, Keeley & Currie all key players and all on loan.
Donley will almost certainly be loaned out to a Championship club
Kelman has significantly increased his value this season and will either have a shot at the QPR first team or be on the radar of other championship/rich League 1 clubs
Currie is a funny one because I’m not really sure why Oxford have loaned him out in the first place. Surely he’s good enough to play in a bottom half championship side. There’s also a chance that they will be relegated and there’s no chance he’s getting loaned out to L1 if they do
Keeley I’m not sure. Realistically he could do with another season at L1 but he will have attracted interested.
There’s a strong chance that we will need a significant squad rebuild at the start of next season and the inevitable slow start which goes with it.
Its a shame that injuries have knackered us but this really was a golden opportunity to reach the play offs that it’ll be difficult to replicate.

Re: Play Offs are Gone
I think Keeley gets massively over emphasised, a keeper who just didn't give away points every game was better than Hemming, Keeley needs another season at this level minimum, I don't think he would be that hard to replace really
Kelman will be nowhere near a Championship team, 11 goals in the League it's hardly Alfie May, playing in a team that creates chances too the Orient, Wellens is the only manager that rates him, QPR have had 3/4/5 since he signed for them and everyone shipped him off
Donley will go on to bigger and better things
Currie, I think if we stumped up the cash would sign tomorrow, the Oxfordthing is odd, not even one minute in the league
In reality if Donley goes, Gailbraith goes into that position
A keeper is a keeper
Kelman is easy to replace
Currie is a big one

1- I think Richie admits he hasnt rotated the squad enough and used the players at his disposal. He could and should have rested Donley and Kelman last night but didnt. We've been lacking physicality due to those missing CB's but he's still elected to field the likes of Markanday and Perkins, when he could use Abdulai, Agyei, Williams, DJ.

Re: Play Offs are Gone
Play-offs ????
For someone who has been a supporter of the Os since 1969, avoiding relegation is a celebration.
But, having said that, the play-offs would have been nice. Though has anyone noticed the Final would have been on Sunday 25th May. Who remembers Sunday 25th May 2014?
Mrs NES does, it was her birthday.
