When it comes to Harry Bearn I like to take a balanced approach.
During his stewardship of the club he didn't have the big bucks that Matchroom has now. The result being the ground we have now. Assets were sold to fund the redevelopment to bring it up to scratch.
On the field we struggled at times but we were closer to Div2 than at anytime since relegation out of it back in the day.
Promotion to The Championship and handing over to a money bags new owner would have been the perfect way to bow out. But nobody reckoned on Jones flapping.
But his desperation to get out either meant he did little or no due diligence on the new owner or ignored what was reported. Either way he has some responsibility for what came next and for that he cannot be forgiven.
