Absolutely. As I've said before we're fortunate have people like Nigel at the club .

It's not that heroic - they'll be expecting to get more for him in the summer. Ling more or less admitted it in his monologue last night.

I applaud the ambition but taking emotions out of it, turning down a million quid for a player who’s been decent for about 1 full season, whom we have cover for is a ludicrous decision.

Not my money though so I’m happy he’s stayed

Agree....I sincerely hope I'm wrong but for me it's merely a postponment towards the inevitable.

It’s a massive win for the club though and is how you build success.

We pick up a young player for free, develop them and sell them on for 1m quid 2 years on. Repeat.

That money can be put back into budgets or facilities, or cut some of the debt.

Every player is replaceable.

Actions speak louder than words. Last year we were “going for it”. This year we really are. Up the Os😍🥰🤩

If, a mighty if, we do get promoted, I would like to think that bids will be off the table....

And that's fair enough but make the buying club pay going rate, when Peterborough get £3 million per player and Wycombe are getting £6 million bids for Kone it's clear the market has inflated so we should be getting that level of fee too.

Strikers go for a lot more. I suspect Ethan is worth £1.5m . However if they saw him Saturday it would be less. Maybe his worse game for the O's?

Not sure why we didn’t think of doing it before when it’s as easy as that.

Circumstances make it easier now

Having a really good manager that can 1) spot a player and 2) develop a player?

I like to think brave and calculated rather than ludicrous. He could be worth double that amount in the summer. Assume he stays fit (admittedly not guaranteed) is his asking price going to go down much? I doubt it. I think worth the gamble but of course not my money…

RW is ace in spotting and developing players. Once we get Saturdays game out the way The options we will have with the new signings and the prospect of getting Ball and Dan back will give him headaches in picking his first team. I rate this squad as the best for many years and that is down to Nigel Lingy and Richie. Great times ahead.

Fulham, Luton, Bournemouth have done ok. Remember Brighton at Withdean. Plenty of potential at the O’s with the right people making the right decisions.

Indeed but we are aiming for the Championship. They have got to the Premier League. Nothing wrong with a bit of ambition. Wimbledon did it for years with minimal attendances.

Lingy explained in the interview.

They believe he is worth more than the £1m offered. The offer came in last minute so there was no time to use the money to bring in a replacement and bolster the squad in other areas.

If Swansea had offered £1.5m at the start of January, I suspect he would have gone. And he will be gone in the summer when someone else comes in for him, sadly. But we'll have time to properly replace.

Agreed, but what was it? Under the valuation or no time to replace?

That's what Lingy said, a combination of both those factors.

His value will likely go up by the summer anyway. Especially if we make the play offs or even get promotion. It’s a sensible business decision.

The one part that I’m less sure about is the impact it’ll have on the player. Will he feel resentful that he has been denied the opportunity to play football at a higher level and presumably for a higher wage?

The club therapist will no doubt get to the bottom of that psychological conundrum.

I'm sure they've already had that discussion and Ethan knows it'll happen in the summer if he keeps on doing what he's doing.
