It’s a massive win for the club though and is how you build success.Chief crazy horse wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 11:14 amAgree....I sincerely hope I'm wrong but for me it's merely a postponment towards the inevitable.
And that's fair enough but make the buying club pay going rate, when Peterborough get £3 million per player and Wycombe are getting £6 million bids for Kone it's clear the market has inflated so we should be getting that level of fee too.
Strikers go for a lot more. I suspect Ethan is worth £1.5m . However if they saw him Saturday it would be less. Maybe his worse game for the O's?
Not sure why we didn’t think of doing it before when it’s as easy as that.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 11:30 amIt’s a massive win for the club though and is how you build success.Chief crazy horse wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 11:14 amAgree....I sincerely hope I'm wrong but for me it's merely a postponment towards the inevitable.
We pick up a young player for free, develop them and sell them on for 1m quid 2 years on. Repeat.
That money can be put back into budgets or facilities, or cut some of the debt.
Every player is replaceable.

I like to think brave and calculated rather than ludicrous. He could be worth double that amount in the summer. Assume he stays fit (admittedly not guaranteed) is his asking price going to go down much? I doubt it. I think worth the gamble but of course not my money…Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 10:09 am I applaud the ambition but taking emotions out of it, turning down a million quid for a player who’s been decent for about 1 full season, whom we have cover for is a ludicrous decision.
Not my money though so I’m happy he’s stayed
RW is ace in spotting and developing players. Once we get Saturdays game out the way The options we will have with the new signings and the prospect of getting Ball and Dan back will give him headaches in picking his first team. I rate this squad as the best for many years and that is down to Nigel Lingy and Richie. Great times ahead.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 11:45 pm Having a really good manager that can 1) spot a player and 2) develop a player?
Fulham, Luton, Bournemouth have done ok. Remember Brighton at Withdean. Plenty of potential at the O’s with the right people making the right decisions.
Indeed but we are aiming for the Championship. They have got to the Premier League. Nothing wrong with a bit of ambition. Wimbledon did it for years with minimal attendances.

Agreed, but what was it? Under the valuation or no time to replace?Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:34 amLingy explained in the interview.DrWindy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 6:41 amI like to think brave and calculated rather than ludicrous. They believe he is worth more than the £1m offered. The offer came in last minute so there was no time to use the money to bring in a replacement and bolster the squad in other areas.
If Swansea had offered £1.5m at the start of January, I suspect he would have gone. And he will be gone in the summer when someone else comes in for him, sadly. But we'll have time to properly replace.
I'm sure they've already had that discussion and Ethan knows it'll happen in the summer if he keeps on doing what he's doing. The Reverend wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 10:00 am His value will likely go up by the summer anyway. Especially if we make the play offs or even get promotion. It’s a sensible business decision.
The one part that I’m less sure about is the impact it’ll have on the player. Will he feel resentful that he has been denied the opportunity to play football at a higher level and presumably for a higher wage?
