Public apology

I honestly thought in August that the players Ling and Co. had brought in looked average and if I am honest did not fill me with much hope for the season ahead.
Come end of November I really felt vindicated in my thoughts. However those very players I thought were below par and not good enough, have not only proved me very very wrong, they have shown us all that they are probably as good as any team in this league if not slightly better in some cases.
I would like to say to all those players and the recruitment team I doubted. I am sorry for not having faith, I want to say thank you though for the joy you have brought back to this club, the performances and results over the last few months have been an absolute joy. Thank you again and once again apologies for my short sightedness.

I want to use this opportunity to gloat that I always stated that I didn’t think we’d go down, despite the panic

We should also thank Spurs for the loan of a couple of outstanding recruits.

I'm still waiting for an apology for the Wycombe game.
I was seriously concerned after that game.

Whilst I am loving the upturn in form, I wouldn’t beat yourself up Frogger.
Firstly, the players that were brought in did look really average in August.
Secondly though, in my mind it is Currie and Keeley who have really made a positive impact. They weren’t playing in August. Currie has given us so much attacking intent, which is very unusual for a fullback.
RW has managed to get Donley to find another gear or two and Pratley and Beckles have been outstanding.
You can only judge what you see. We couldn’t hit a barn door in August. Nothing to apologise for.

We suffered back in August due to goalkeeping errors.

Before the two new lads joined that is what worried me, was where are the goals coming from, I still think Kelman is bang average but the two new wingers look like they can score, Ayegi to come back, O'Neil to come back, Donley will get a few

Always playoff contenders imo. The goalkeeping issue was the issue. Not helpful when the number of shots on goal, equal the number of goals conceded. However, if it took that to get where we are now, all is good. This is no lucky streak of form. The team and the footy being played is fucccin wonderful. But ultimately this reflects the overall management of the club as a whole.

He absolutely should beat himself up, as should anyone who was calling for Richie to go or booing the players off earlier in the season. It was so evident we were always going to be alright.

Rubbish.
Hemming has gone. Warrington has gone. DJ is hardly playing as is Obiero and Sweeney.
Currie and Keeley have come in.
We were terrible in August and couldn’t score.
I certainly didn’t call for RW to go but we were poor in August. The players have changed considerably since then.
Of course you’re always right though…always.

It is an interesting point to consider as to why we take so long to get going.
Just something we have to accept as we will always rely on loans that naturally come in late so take time getting up to speed or bond with the group?
We’ve got an amazing manager, the same players that were here at the start. We weren’t just losing some games, we were being rolled over.
An average start and we’d be top 3 now. Not complaining, it is what it is and didn’t really doubt we’d come out of the funk (and be mid table). But two years in a row has potentially stifled our potential

The key point is that the manager addressed the issues. Those keeping mistakes couldn’t have been foreseen

Yes, it can take time for a new group of players to gel but if the players are intelligent and the messaging is clear, which it seems to be, that won't be an issue. Look how the two new boys have settled in this week.
I think there were specific reasons why results didn't go our way both this season and last. This season, we were in all of the opening games against the bigger teams but just threw points away through goalkeeping errors. That negative momentum and lack of confidence then builds up and snowballs into something greater. Last season, we definitely lacked confidence and belief that we deserved to be playing L1 football initially and also missed Agyei. How can we be expected to play Wellensball with Piggot up top and Moncur behind him?

Why apologise?
Hemming was a huge mistake. Perkins and Donley haven’t shown they’re capable of playing professional football until the last few weeks. We went into the season relying on some very injury prone players to stay fit.
The team suffered by being affected by the international breaks and they could build no match rhythm. We also had some good results at the start of the season against much better teams. We were very unlucky to drop points.
We on a very good run of form recently and the new additions look great but that can change very quickly.

August was not terrible (other than butter fingers).
The seeds were already sown and the Bolton & Birmingham performances were decent and a sign of positive things to come.
The switching to a proper keeper and recruitment of a left back (sorry JS) who are the standard required for this level alongside the quality of loan players getting up to speed with L1 hasn’t, for me, been a surprise.
I didn’t think the run would be this incredible (shades of the class of 2013/14) but had a confidence relegation wouldn’t ever be a concern.

We played 4 league games. We lost all four. Conceded 8 goals and scored 2.
