Geez they went over so easily and the ref bought it both times.

There's not much in the first but it's clever from their attacker - if you feel contact you go down. That's why you don't put your hands on someone in the box.

Second is stupid from Widdowson, he has a hold of his man for far too long and makes it easy for the referee.

That first one was very soft but great fightback from the lads. :D

Angol had another good game, liked him from the very first game I saw him play for us, skillful, ball playing forward, a bit like a lower league version of Daniel Sturridge . Soft penalties, especially the first one, but the rules have tightened up this season, so certain refs will give a penalty for the slightest hand contact in the area by defenders on attackers. Widdowson one was rather naive in holding onto their forward, why hold the man in the penalty area, especially when he is heading out of the area ? From all accounts Dennis played well when he came on, be interested to see him play live next time I come to watch the Os. Always nice to see a quick and skillful forward play like Dennis and Angol.

There were some good bits of play in all of our goals. Great overhead kick from Dennis for the first. Great link up play between Wilkinson and Angol for the second, even if the keeper did gift us the goal. Great passing and a quick breakaway for the third.

I saw the first goal for the first time this morning and it looked very soft.

What about the second one? Two shockingly soft pens.

Widdowson was an idiot, held onto Rose even as he was running away from goal

There was some contact between the two payers but the Mansfield player went down like a sack of spuds after they had separated.

Interesting that 'fancied' Mansfield were only able to score against us with penalties. So pleased that our strikers have found the net at last, but well done to the 'back' boys!! Someone mentioned on the 'ratings' thread that Brill had nothing to do all evening.

You have to accept that rules have been tightened up this season and if as last night, referees wish to enforce to the full, defenders holding onto attacking forwards in the penalty area are going to be liable to give a penalty away. We saw it with VAR enforcement going to extremes in the recent world cup. Offside decisions given with forwards virtually a toe offside, penalties given for the slightest infringements, they are the rules now, so that is as it is !

Absolutely. I've just seen the highlights for the first time and quite honestly, both penalty's were a joke . The second one in particular was diabolical . Widdowson had his hands up in the air as the Mansfield player took a dive , but the Ref still swallowed it .

Make no mistake, Mansfield are a good side and I reckon they will be pushing for automatic promotion this season . Last nights result was excellent , especially coming back from two down. That was a real confidence booster for our players.

Funny you wouldnt think that if you read there fans forum

Lots think they are going down
Lots think there new boss should be got rid of
They are moaning about lack of depth in the squad
How light they are in midfield.
How Big teams are going to cause them problems
because they aren't & seem a bit small.

In fact if you read through 1 thread in particular , you could be forgiven for thinking it was this board.

Quite refreshing really

Wonder if a certain poster will be man enough to admit he was wrong to start calling critics of this team wrong after 1 win?
Dempster needs sacking or we will only be leaving this division in 1 direction. It was blindingly obvious they were going to score long before they did and he did nothing. Abysmal pathetic embarrassing management. Danny rose ought to just resign in protest.

I know its hard and yes the Mansfield player makes the most of it and dives for the second penalty....but the fact of the matter is that you can clearly see Widdowson grabbing hold of the Mansfield player e.g 0.40 to 041 and yes when the Mansfield player dives like a swallow but THEN as he starts to dive, Widdowson quickly holds his arms up high, but sorry, too late, he has already committed the foul of grabbing hold of the players shirt, too late to hold your arms up now after doing the foul isn't it !! Its a very harsh ruling, but if the ref sees it and wishes to give it, well he is within his rights. So hard for defenders now, as rules, especially when VAR rulings are in place, seem like they are trying to make football a non contact sport ! Like the first penalty, the slightest contact by Marvin and the Mansfield player again dives, bad joke really. Surely penalty kicks were never originally intended to be given for such flimsy reasons, but meddling with the rules of football in recent times have made it so

The first one had to be given. Marv has been done like this a few times, he needs to learn.

The second was an absolute joke.

First penalty nailed on
Second was a foul initially by Widdowson, but he'd let go and the player just blatantly dived
Lovely cross from Ling for the first
Shocking keeping for the second
Shocking finish from Dennis for the third, so lucky JMD was there for it to go in off of

When they were 2-0 up they were going to win the league and 3-2 down they want to sack everyone. The mirror image of here in fact. We might have to increase our moaning in the next game. It won’t help the boys if they come on here and see our moaning levels drop. It’s a long season. It’s all about keeping up our intensity even on a cold winters night in Morecambe.

The penalty decisions are a matter of opinion. The moves for the second and third goals were brilliant even if the finishes were not.
