I've it before and I'll say it again , Richie is one of the best managers this club has ever had . If Richie left we'd get relegated for sure . I don't blame the manager for our blight , I blame the board . Our recruitment during the Summer was pants . You could see we were going to hit trouble by the calibre of signings we were making . TBH, I can't see our recruitment being any better in January so we're in deep sh*t this season .
Which I hope is for a very long time. Even if we go down I want him to stay . Our manager isn't the problem . it's been the standard of our recruitment.
Why blame the board for our recruitment?RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:46 pmI've it before and I'll say it again , Richie is one of the best managers this club has ever had . But do they have the injuries we have . Both our first choice wingers are out long term plus our best midfielder won't be back until around roughly Christmas time .essexfootball wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:42 pm Can't constantly blame recruitment, there are about 15 very very average teams in this league
Lack of funds . We couldn't compete during the Summer in the transfer market and so now we can't compete on the pitch . I'm not talking about the likes of Birmingham and Wrexham but clubs like Mansfield and Bristol Rovers who we couldn't compete with . Now we're paying for it .DrWindy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:50 pmWhy blame the board for our recruitment?RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:46 pmI've it before and I'll say it again , Richie is one of the best managers this club has ever had . Yeah I am not sure I agree. The signings we have brought in have been poor. Not sure that’s the board though. I think money has been wasted. We have signed some good players over the years on a smaller budget so I would be looking elsewhere.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:54 pmLack of funds . Taking the board at their word of it being 15/24 sized budget, that should surely get you more than 6 loanees with half of them being first time loans (which Richie has stated he doesn't favour)RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:54 pm

6 loanees gives us cover all over the pitch.gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 11:04 pmTaking the board at their word of it being 15/24 sized budget, that should surely get you more than 6 loanees with half of them being first time loans (which Richie has stated he doesn't favour)RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:54 pm

Think it was said weeks back we were fielding the youngest average age squad in the league, that's a choice and not one working in our favour.
There's also a long running trope of the recruitment team signing players with poor injury records hoping to get lucky (Callum Reilly anyone?), it's not just bad luck.
The buck stops with the DoF, it's his responsibility so needs to either perform better or be replaced with someone with fresh ideas.
Comes back to whether they're actually good enough to be useful though or just padding out bench places.Bandy Legs wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 11:08 pm 6 loanees gives us cover all over the pitch.
Bring in only 2 players on contracts we lose cover.
Hemming being sh*t didn't help so we had to get Keely .
Not my job & they can only go by what the likes of Spurs tell us. Donley is raved about, but it's L1 mens Football not Prem youth, yet Keely is flying.gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 11:16 pmComes back to whether they're actually good enough to be useful though or just padding out bench places.Bandy Legs wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 11:08 pm 6 loanees gives us cover all over the pitch.

Hemming - no comment
Keeley - promising
Currie - good (though should be signing a permanent LB)
Donley - first time loan, struggling
Perkins - first time loan to all intents, struggling
Kelman - current top scorer
So would you take 3 loanees and one quality pro or those 6 but only half are really performing at the level required.
The other thing Richie has touched on is come summer you also end up with far too much squad churn, especially in those spine positions like the GK and LB. Think it works out we'll need10+ players come summer between loans and contracts ending.
I’d hope our recruitment involves actually looking at the players ourselves, not just asking the club how good their player is….Bandy Legs wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 11:21 pm

Recruitment is down to unrealistic budget needed to bring in the quality of players needed at this level, that’s totally down to NT.You can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear, in my opinion NT is way out of his depth and should have looked for massive investment as soon as we were promoted to League 1.essexfootball wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:42 pm Can't constantly blame recruitment, there are about 15 very very average teams in this league
Donley was looked at in the JE CupHoover Attack wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 11:36 pmI’d hope our recruitment involves actually looking at the players ourselves, not just asking the club how good their player is….Bandy Legs wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 11:21 pm
