How can this be deemed acceptable in a country that has shameful levels of homelessness and poverty?

They should have sold the TV rights to pay per view, and charged for people to watch. Gotta monetize these days!

An old geezer in a fur coat with a crown of jewels on his head being driven around in a golden carriage and people still think that’s normal and acceptable when poverty is rife and our services are falling apart

Yeah, but at least it gives those poor people something to aspire to.

I think the anti royal types should be able to claim a rebate on their £1.29 they pay for them PA.
The trade off would be they would then legally be banned from moaning about the royals and how much they cost
Would present them with a conundrum

Is it that much of a conundrum? I'd take the £1.29 each year and then there'd be much less to moan about if the state stopped chucking millions of £££ at them and they just paid their own way. Seems a manufactured problem.

£1.29 but you could never make a Pizza Express joke or call Andrew a sweaty nonce again?
Think a lot of republicans would pay

Can't I just get the £1.29 and have the monarchy abolished ? That sounds the neatest solution.

But if we abolished them, no tourists would come to England and that would cost each of us much more than £1.29.
