Theo is a fighter and also my favourite Os player. So sad to hear of this setback.
Knee injuries are so hard to conquer, especially torn ACL injuries.
Best of luck to Theo.

This is not good, I did my ACL in and have still not recovered after five years, I have to gingerly climb and descend the stairs in the West Stand gingerly to avoid doing further injury. Had two ops and whilst it is better the surgeon says it may never recover fully. I do all the physio but it is one of those awkward injuries.

I ruptured my ACL when I was playing football in around 1969, I was 21 at the time. In those times there was not that much in the way of operations for that injury. I had an operation in 1979 that helped a bit then another one in 1992 by the same surgeon who operated on Paul Gascoigne's ACL knee injury.
He did his best but it was 22 years too late and the damage to the joint had been done. In March this year I ended up having to have a full knee replacement. I hope your own knee injury improves as time goes on.

If Sid gave the farming industry a tenner every time he mentioned his ACL tear in the 60s, they'd be able to call off their current protests about inheritance tax.

It was a very traumatic injury that changed my life. Of course being as you have read me mention it before, you can always just skip reading my comments. As to the farmers protests, well many non country people fail to understand the hard work, long hours and hard work for low rewards that farming involves,

Yes, just to join in... 'Really sorry for Theo and I hope modern surgery will repair the damage.
I was 12 when I ruptured my knee ligaments and dislocated the joint. 'Spent ages in Whipp's and had the torn cartilege removed. Eventually got to see the Marshes again but wasn't much cop by then. Now, at 78, walking's a bit difficult and I still get the odd dislocation. 'Sometimes doubt if the Os number nine shirt will ever be mine.

An accident that happens in seconds and stops with you for life. Years ago it was a career ending injury, e,g finished off Brian Clough when he was only 27 years old when he tore the medial and cruciate ligaments in his knee, an injury which in that era usually ended a player's career. He returned two years later, but could manage only three games and then retired from playing at the age of 29. With present day surgery, if done quickly after the injury and depending what the internal knee injuries are, then some players can get to return to playing again although many are not as as good as they were pre injury

Echo your comment re Theo.
The O's number nine shirt still belongs to Pigott so you could be in with a shout.

With Theo’s enthusiasm and personality and background I think he would make a good coach for our youngsters.
Perhaps he could do that next season whilst still trying to recover from this terrible injury.
Just a thought?

I can recommend the Royal Orthopedic hospital at Stanmore for knee problems. That is the hospital where I had my knee replacement done.

He didn’t have an ACL in the first place. His issue is a lot different to what has been described in this thread.

Wonder if his other knee also has no ACL ?
Being as Theo had no ACL which helps stabilize the knee amazing that Theo could play football at all ?

Very sad to hear this. However, I hope Theo can take some comfort from the story of his fellow Scot - Lewis Vaughan - who suffered, and recovered from 4 (yes FOUR) ACL injuries - 2 in each leg. A lesser man might have buckled - but he was determined to get back to playing and did.
'Mon Theo - keep at it.

Under the NHS rules you can ask to go to hospitals of your choice. The doctors will tend to send you to a local hospital but its worth asking to see if its possible to get treatment there, I had this problem for over 50 years, hate operations and wanted to give myself as good a chance as possible. The Royal Orthopedic is a specialist hospital and I was very pleased with the treatment I got. I had knee replacement at that hospital, dont know if they also do ACL operations ?

The old Spurs chant for Steve Archibald needs a re-visit
We'll take more care of you Archibald Archibald
Repeat numerous times for the lad
