He’s got to go, surely.

This is leadership failure at its very worst.

I couldn’t agree more.

you'll struggle to find a religion in which abuse isn't common. I'm a catholic, so I might be biased, tho.

I do believe that Welby is deploying a version of the "I was present but not involved"-type defence.

This would never happen in the Catholic Church.

Resigned.

I liked the guy and he spoke sense, but why he didn't do something about this pedo creep, only God & Justin knows.

Would also say that, from the information that's come out of the reviews, 'pedo creep' is a fairly kind way of describing an absolute monster like Smyth. If Hell exists, I hope he's not enjoying it.

Shocking dereliction of duty by the Archbish, he had to go. Mates more important than the security and welfare of children. He needs to be booed as well.

I was going to add, I hope he at least got booed at the synod.

Without turning this into a sectarian row, he's an odious man. I wonder if the CofE will appoint a spiritual leader with belief in the sacred this time, rather than a profane, irreligious virtue-signalling humanist.

I loosely remember a Yes Minister/Prime Minister where Hacker had to appoint an Archbishop of Canterbury (or someone on those lines). Sir Humphrey made a comment that this particular candidate was unusual in that he actually believed in God, something I sadly do not.

Meanwhile - am I right in thinking that we have a convicted felon in The White House?

You are not.
