Re: Richie Wellens interview post Northampton
It seems from that interview he has the players in something of a tactical straitjacket tbh. Maybe there’s a lack of emphasis on effort and commitment and too much focus on technique which our players find difficult to execute?

' We need a centre forward who is going to get into those positions ". Well in that case play Agyei up front Tuesday night and try and sign a new striker during the January transfer window. Send Perkins back to Leeds because he's not good enough . Put his wages towards paying for a new striker .

Don't waste your time guys, Wellens is bullet proof and can do or not do anything he likes. Amazing innit, the club have given him a three year contract and he has now hit his ceiling.

Did you see his Miss? Not sure he'll score wherever he starts, like O'Neill he's gone backwards over the summerRedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 6:14 pm ' We need a centre forward who is going to get into those positions ". Thanks to our poor Summer recruitment Agyei is all we've got .Bandy Legs wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 6:32 pmDid you see his Miss? In two minds. I don’t disbelieve Richie but I also just feel like, yeah you are a good coach with good tactical nous. But you are working with under performing league one players who are young. Maybe it’s time to go back to basics for a few games. The likes of O’Neill would benefit from playing as a winger, for example.

Re: Richie Wellens interview post Northampton
I respect Richie... He's the best manager we could ever get in league 1, but he's been let down by the board, who wouldn't ( or couldn't ) release the funds necessary to bring good players of the required standard here in the summer.
Imagine Lester Piggot in his heyday, being given a second rate horse to ride. He wouldn't have won, because the horse wasn't up to it, just like our players aren't up to it .
We are nailed on for relegation, unless the funds are found for good players in January
I'm not holding my breath

He's scored fewer league goals than Kelman.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 6:36 pmThanks to our poor Summer recruitment Agyei is all we've got .Bandy Legs wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 6:32 pmDid you see his Miss? He isn't all we've got, but what we've got has been rubbish outside of Stockport away & Reading.

Re: Richie Wellens interview post Northampton
Wellens isnt blameless but we signed a load of cack in the summer and this is the result. Replacing experienced pros with loanee kids and freebies. Selling one of the few sources of goals we had (Ruel) and not properly replacing him.
I don’t think it’s Wellen’s who has hit his ceiling, it’s the club owners. Clearly they don’t have the financial clout to sustain things at this level. Danger is that if new investors aren’t found soon then if it’s not this season (which it very well could be) then it’s only a matter of very short time before we drop out of this division.
I usually give it 10 games before making any meaningful assessment of clubs prospects for the season and I’ve seen enough to be confident that this is going to be relegation scrap, if we’re lucky. I say this because a scrap means that there’s a chance of staying up. As things currently strand we are at serious risk of being down and out well before the final games of the season. Remember, 4 go down from this league. And I ask you: have a serious look at this squad and the dross we’ve bought in over the summer: do you seriously believe this is the kind of squad you want in a relegation battle?

Re: Richie Wellens interview post NorthamptonQ
Quite an interesting interview, and my feeling is that he’s blaming everyone else. I’d not enjoy being a player under him. it feels like he’s saying “why is nobody getting my system” Next few weeks will be key

Re: Richie Wellens interview post Northampton
We could have played on until next Saturday and still not score, Agyei and Kelman were poor but they are the ONLY strikers we have, that’s the really scary thing, if one of them gets injured we only have ‘Dorothy ‘ Perkins to start up front.
Everyone knows our recruitment has been poor over the Summer……..whose fault it is, god knows, surely RW realised that we were always a striker or two light……..we badly need another striker who knows where the back of the net is.

Re: Richie Wellens interview post Northampton
Anyone who can count could see we're well short upfront, you've got the wonderful recruitment team to thank for that, along with the loanee GK shambles that cost us the first 4 games of the season. The questions need to be asked of far more people within the club than Richie.Cheshunto wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 7:41 pm We could have played on until next Saturday and still not score, Agyei and Kelman were poor but they are the ONLY strikers we have, that’s the really scary thing, if one of them gets injured we only have ‘Dorothy ‘ Perkins to start up front.

Re: Richie Wellens interview post Northampton
Richie chose the players, decides the tactics and motivates the team. The Board spend what they can (which BTW isnt a lot these days) but their multi millionaire hands are tied. What can they realistically do?Qin wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 6:56 pm I respect Richie... Lester was too busy cheating on his taxes to fully concentrate on a below par horse. That is if he was riding it "honest" in the first place.

Wellens loves Kelman and wanted to keep him the other year and then sign him again, as much as I think Ling makes cockups, he delivered the striker Wellens loves and wanted

So Ling is off the hook for this one and RW has gone from the frying pan into the fire and IS on the hook.essexfootball wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 8:40 pm Wellens loves Kelman and wanted to keep him the other year and then sign him again, as much as I think Ling makes cockups, he delivered the striker Wellens loves and wanted

Re: Richie Wellens interview post Northampton
Agyei and ONeill are both being played out of position - as part of a narrower front 3 behind Kelman - because Kelman needs players around him. Agyei last season didn’t. I’d definitely give Charlie a rest, stick Agyei back up top, and go with ONeill out on the left wing and someone else - Donley/Graham - on the right.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 6:46 pm In two minds. Re: Richie Wellens interview post Northampton
That's even worse news than the result today
* lost our only effective CDM
* lost our only proper RB with any pace
* higher risk of Sweeney playing as no other fit full back options (unless you weaken the midfield taking Galbraith out to put there)
Got to be asking questions of this new fitness team as we have players gone backwards in their levels from last season and a number breaking down already.

That would be the obvious thing to do, so of course Wellens won’t do that.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 8:56 pmAgyei and ONeill are both being played out of position - as part of a narrower front 3 behind Kelman - because Kelman needs players around him. Re: Richie Wellens interview post Northampton
Exactly . People like me were saying before the season started that we needed another striker . We lost Sotiriou and Forde so it was bloody obvious we needed another striker brought in . We've gone down from four strikers to two . In fact although Pigott was sh*t if you want to include him it's five down to two . Perkins doesn't count .. A young cheap inexperienced loanee who offers nothing .Cheshunto wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 7:41 pm We could have played on until next Saturday and still not score, Agyei and Kelman were poor but they are the ONLY strikers we have, that’s the really scary thing, if one of them gets injured we only have ‘Dorothy ‘ Perkins to start up front.
