People wearing headphones all the time

I've noticed this has gone a bit mad, especially on transport.

I was waiting for a tube yesterday and noticed every person in the awaiting scrum had earphones in. You get on and 99% of people sit there with a phone out. I reckon they've turned up the volume of the announcments on the tube too, because they know most people have their ears stuffed. And then you get people just walking around with them on, as if they would not be able to tolerate the outside world or real life. We've turned into a planet of zombies.

How do you pass the time on public transport? You a raw dogger bruh?

Certainly more tolerable than the alternative of someone playing music/videos through their phone speaker for all to hear

People still do that, which I guess is another argument for headphones

Currently playing football manager. Usually watching something gaming.

I do occassionally wear headphones during these activities, but not on the street, the platform or between stations etc, its a bit much.

I wear them a lot, but only "earphones", rather than over the ear efforts

Don't have the volume high, and easy to take one out (which silences the other one immediately). They have "noise cancelling", but it adjusts depending on the environment..

As an aside, (in case anyone interested) the model I have (Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 s2) are now £209 at Argos. Were orginally £379 and are very very good indeed. I tried all the other "usual suspects" and these were way in front..

Should’ve started a thread to grumble about the FM25 shambles :(

It is quite striking when you look around on a train to see who isn't on a phone. I have big noise cancelling headphones which i have on almost all the time on the train, sometimes with nothing on but to deaden the noise. It is interesting walking around without them in London though - notice a lot of interesting stuff.

You mean you would rather people play their music on loud speaker on the train? Wait till you listen to my heavy rock playing on high volume!

I read a book or newspaper when on the tube, also being as I dont go on the tube much, I look at the tube map and keeping a check on the stations and where to get off. Same when I seem to see so many people at my town centre walking around like zombies looking at smart phones and not looking where they are going.

I bring my old copies of The Sun on the tube and look at the bangers on page three. Old skool.

I'd hate to work in London. Whenever I'm down for football everybody is so damn miserable & unfriendly (that's London generally, not The O's!) Much prefer the early starts up here to work on my Dad's building site :D. At least until I've saved up enough for my Oceanography MSc.

Listen to podcast on walk to tube station.
When sat in train, start watching something I've downloaded.
Podcast back on during any interchange or walk from tube to office.
Repeat on return to home station.
But, walk home from station is always an album or playlist. I'm no savage.

Seems similar to me. I have to go to London 2-3 times a week for work and get in and out asap.
I'm not sure if the air of general indifference and non-bonhomie towards others is exclusive to London, or any big city. Probably the latter. I suppose first and foremost, people are just trying to 'survive', what with exhorbitant rents and property prices etc.

However, I do find if you approach someone and ask for something or just make general chitter-chatter people are usually pretty friendly. Some aren't but you get rude w******* everywhere, not just London..

My nearest big city is Liverpool (I'm from Wirral & told my Orient story when I joined the board) which I think is 'friendly', although my dad & Grandad say it has changed a lot over the last 20 years. Not just saying this, but don't like the Mancs who appear to have a streak of agressiveness/look like they want to start a row.
