Brentford Stewards

Just after half time the Brentford stewards seemed to antagonise quite a few of our fans.
Punches were thrown and at least one of our fans were arrested. Not sure what the initial problem was but the stewards were blocking people returning to their seats and that’s when it all ‘kicked off ‘
Unusual to see our fans getting ‘involved’ like that but it was a scary for some of the young kids near me.

Presumably you’re not a young wannabe hoolie with half a dozen pints and a couple of lines of sniff in you?

The 15 year old Top Boys were all pretty lively for a school night. Didn't see what started it but was pretty grim for a while at the start of the second half. I get that they're not supposed to, but everyone was standing in the aisle for the first 45 minutes without any problems.

There are unfortunately 20-30 young lads (between 12-20) who follow Orient away that have watched far too much Football Factory and Green Street and think they need to behave like that.

It was the usual faces last night.

I believe they were not allowing fans back up the stair wells unless they had tickets (presumably in those sections). The problem was that people in that corner section were mainly those displaced from being in the more popular sections. There were also people wanting to go up and try to join the fringes of the more popular sections.

People started manhandling stewards and visa versa. It happened because fans could push through the stewards lines, until they were re-enforced. As few younger idiots took the opportunity to be youths.

The main issue is that we are Orient fans and seat allocations never really matter to us. We are just not used to sitting in the sat we buy. Its an unfamiliar problem to a premiership clubs stewards. Poorly handled all round. We did not cover ourselves in glory last night. I say that as one that was forced to push between the stewards myself.

Agree that it appeared to escalate needlessly when there was no issue for 45 minutes.

Sounds like I was wise to give it a miss

Why can’t we just ban these mindless thuggery thugs?

It's really not difficult.

A big sold out end like that, you know you're going to have to sit in the seat number printed on your ticket.

Stop making excuses for fans behaving like dicks.

There were about 10 young Herberts in my carriage on the Tube on the way over, nothing terrible but a bit lairy and obnoxious (although one did help a lady with her suitcase) all in the Football Factory gear and properly pissed up. Saw them again as I went in and the OB had already pulled half of them to one side so assume they, and the Club, obviously knows who they are.

I’m sure they do. It’s mostly just scrote-like behaviour as opposed to violence but it’s the usual pack mentality where people think they can throw their weight around in a mob. Wouldn’t say boo to a goose on their own.

It’s funny as I was in their carriage back from Lincoln last season and they (knowingly) were on the wrong train yet they very extremely polite and obsequious to the lady ticket collector when challenged and did what they were told. All from ‘good homes’ I’d imagine but when away from (I’d guess) Buckhurst Hill they’re off the leash and can play the East London football hard man.

I think I speak for the entire message board when I say we need to take a zero tolerance approach to this

Assaults or Racial abuse: Lifetime ban

Use of foul language within a ground: Initial warning then 10 year ban

We pride ourselves on being a family club and so we should :ugeek:

I'm thinking back to last season where we took big away followings and more or less filled our allocation.... Charlton, Reading, Derby, people managed to sit in their allocated seats without having a punch up with the home stewards? It's not difficult.

I felt a bit sorry for the stewards TBH
They’re probably only on minimum salary and just trying to do their job asking fans to sit / stand where their tickets are for.
When we left the stadium we saw at least one, maybe two of the young ‘Herbert’s’ , handcuffed about to be loaded into the meat wagon by the OB
It all got pretty violent for a short while with Dad’s lifting young kids over the barriers to keep them safe.

Yet certain people above try and justify their thuggish behaviour.

Indeed. Sadly a symptom of modern society where people don’t like to be told what to do, even if they’re in the wrong (and possibly juiced and / or coked up).

I was near the fighting last night and yes, it looked like Os fans (the Stone Island, lairy, noisy youth section) had clearly decided to sit all together in one area, irrespective of whether they had tickets there or not. As a consequence, Os fans arriving near kick off ended up standing on the stairs areas rather than try to get to their seats and cause issues during the first half.

Those people had clearly spoken to stewards (and the stairs being not clear is a breach of fire and safety regulations) so stewards were enforcing at the end of half time. The youths were not happy at being told what to do (because they aren’t used to it and think they can do what they want) and then started fists flying into the 2 stewards on the stairs leading to the back section. It got very ugly very quickly, some of the youths standing on the railings giving it large to the arriving police, stewards trying to move the youngsters off the stairs so people could get to their seats and a group of about 20 more youths pushing down to get into the action, irrespective of other fans who were sent flying.

It was ugly, and appalling. It doesn’t matter if we aren’t used to sitting in our seats, at a sold out game common sense tells you that you should. If you want to all sit together, but your tickets together or, for just one game, put up with the fact your mates aren’t next to you.

I assume you are being ironic with this statement? It’s a message board. I don’t want you speaking for me. That’s why I have an account. A ten year ban for foul language at a football ground. Good grief. I was on the north terrace from about age 7 and heard all sorts of stuff. I don’t believe it did me any harm.

Sorry to hear this Val.

Orient fans need to stand united and show this behaviour won't be tolerated.

I'm far too old to be playing at that sort of stuff - and never really did so back in the day.

I don't know where you sit at Brisbane Road, if you even go, but in the TJS seat numbers don't mean too much. "There or thereabouts" seems to be the rule in block B anyway - especially if you arrive at 2:59pm or after.

No excuses for the idiots at our end, but having been in the middle of this the stewards were not innocents. They failed to explain what was taking place and simply blocked two entrances to the stands - for several minutes. This inertia by them provoked a reaction from those under the stand who wished to return to their seats. A shoving match ensued and the idiots from the stands above made the situation worse.
